Duties

Help

  • Teaches graduate-level courses in the curriculum. Faculty members typically teach 2-3 seminar-style courses per year.
  • Advises student theses and dissertations at the MPhil and PhD levels, respectively.
  • Conducts and publishes peer-reviewed research on matters relevant to the Department of Defense and the security of the United States.
  • Faculty members are provided substantial time and resources to pursue a robust research agenda.
  • Engages in academic service which includes but is not limited to a range of activities from school administration to support for mission requirements at the University, the Department of the Air Force, or the Department of Defense.
  • Maintains professional associations, as well as participates in professional activities related to area(s) of expertise.

Qualifications

Applicants should have expertise in areas related to strategic studies including, but not necessarily limited to, cyber, defense economics, international political economy, regional security issues, and/or irregular warfare and be capable of teaching and advising Master's level thesis work in such areas. Extensive professional and teaching experience in one or more of these areas is highly desired. The selection committee will consider applicants at the assistant and associate levels. Additional qualifications include:

  • Knowledge of functions, structure, and operations of an accredited, graduate-level academic organization.
  • Ability to teach graduate-level seminar courses in history, military history, political science, cyber, space, military technology, irregular warfare, and national and/or international security studies.
  • Ability to guide graduate-level research using relevant source material and guide students to cogent arguments based on findings.

Education

An earned PhD relevant to strategic studies is required.

Additional information

The position will be an initial three year appointment with a one-year probationary period, with the potential for continued reappointment for additional 1-5 year terms. This position is subject to Air University's tenure and promotion policy, this position is tenure-track eligible.
