SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The purpose of this position is to conduct formal combat arms training and maintenance activities for the Security Forces Squadron and tenant personnel. Control and operate firing ranges; inspect, repair, and maintain ground weapons. To enforce law, maintain law and order, preserve the peace, and protect life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of the military installation. To oversee the work activities of Drill Status Guardsmen (DSG) assigned to the Security Forces Combat Arms function.
Performs Combat Arms Training.
May oversee the work activities of subordinates and Traditional Guardsmen.
Manages and oversees the installation ground weapons training and maintenance program; serves as an instructor and inspects ground weapons.
Represents the Security Forces Squadron (SFS) with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
When needed or directed, performs and enforces the full range of security forces duties within the military installation.
Performs other duties as assigned.

This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: A National Guard Title 32 Dual Status applicant must have a validated understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the occupational series and grade. For the GS-08 initial appointment or promotion appointment, the applicant must have at least six months of working experiences and the successful completion of the Air Force Technical Training AFSC/Security Forces School.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have experiences in performing practical security force activities in direct support of the military weapon systems and physical security; law and order; and area security operations. The work experiences are in law enforcement, maintaining law and order, preserving the peace, and protecting life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of military installations. Have general experiences in protecting federal property from hazards such as sabotage, espionage, trespass, theft, fire, and accident or willful damage and destruction. Experiences in securing crime and incident scenes; apprehending and detaining suspects; searches persons and property; and collects, seize, and preserve evidence. Experienced in conducting interviews of witnesses and suspects and obtains statements and testifies in official judicial proceedings. Has work experiences in responding to disaster and relief operations and participates in contingencies. Knowledgeable in developing plans, policies, procedures, and detailed instructions to implement security force programs. Is competent and experienced in maintaining accountability and ensuring security for weapons, ammunition, and explosives utilized in the course of instruction in accordance with applicable Air Force Instructions. Experienced in implementing ground weapons training programs. Experienced in the control and safeguarding of arms, ammunition, and equipment; and, instructs ground weapons qualification training. Have competencies in managing weapon placement to security forces and ground defense force commanders. Have experiences in inspecting ground weapons, replacing unserviceable parts, and analyzing malfunctions by inspections and serviceability testing. Have experiences in firing weapons for accuracy and serviceability. Understands how to control and operate firing ranges and associated facilities to include supervising construction and rehabilitation. Experiences may include instructions on the proper use of handguns, rifles, machine guns and other base defense/ground combat skills equipment, in accordance with approved lesson plans and course control documents. Experienced in weaponry, laws, directives, programs, policies, and procedures governing Security Forces activities; installation security; weapon system and resource security; anti-terrorism; law enforcement and investigations; military working dogs; air base defense; training; pass and registration; civilian work force; and combat arms.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS/SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For entry into the authorized specialty code, completion of high school or General Equivalency Diploma is mandatory. Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience are used to meet the requirements for the military ranks, as specified in the Air Force Enlisted Classification Directory (AFECD)
MILITARY TECHNICIAN COMPATIBILITY POSITION: Prior to placement in this position, the selected applicant must be assigned to an appropriate military position and must meet the definition of a dual status technician in accordance with 32 U S C 709.

8. Employee must successfully complete annual/recurring requirements specified for the position. Courses include: Law of Armed Conflict, Explosive Safety, Professional and Unprofessional relationships, Suicide Awareness, and other programs as directed by the Security Forces Commander.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have Secret Clearance. Applicant must be CATM Instructor certified for purposes of managing and operating indoor firearms range. Must have at least 24-months experience, education, or training in planning, directing, coordinating and controlling installation and law enforcement activities. The incumbent must have experience providing training in areas related to this position and maintaining security records.

MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:
To qualify for this series, a current physical and a cleared drug test are mandatory.
Normal color vision and normal depth perception are required, as defined by current Air Force Medical Examinations and Standards Instructions
Distance visual acuity correctable to 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other.
No speech disorder or noticeable communication deficiency as defined in AFI 48-123.
No diagnosed fear of acrophobia (fear of heights) or confined spaces.
Pre-service cannabis/synthetic drug use cannot exceed nine times or used within one year of entrance into the 3P Career Field.
To qualify for this series, must confirm there is no history of emotional instability, personality disorder, or other unresolved mental health problems.
No record of sleep disorders to include, but not limited to, sleep apneas, insomnias, hyper-somnias, narcolepsy, or restless leg syndrome.
No current diagnosis of Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or Perceptual/Learning Disorder(s); and, prescribed medication(s) to treat these disorders in the last 12 months.
No history of mood disorders including bipolar disorder, major depression, dysthymia, or depression not otherwise specified.
No recorded evidence of personality disorder, sustained or untreatable emotional instability to include depression, or suicidal behavior to include attempts, gestures, ideations, threats, or history of self-mutilation.
Individuals who had their spleens removed are NOT eligible for assignment to the military working dog program or any canine functions.
