Help
  • Create and maintain high quality, interactive user interfaces (including the building of apps) for visualizing natural resources research and monitoring data
  • Assist and train users with program development, database design, forms design, tool design, and the execution of apps and other programs
  • Perform a wide variety of tasks and analyses that result in new techniques or solutions to help partners visualize natural resources research and monitoring data
  • Provide technical expertise, staff coordination, and consultation in the areas of user interface design, natural resources data visualization and analytics, field collection techniques, and data applications
  • Analyze biological data and information to address complex natural resource issues
  • Test programs to ensure accurate and statistically consistent operation and identify problems in the information management system
  • Collaborate and consult on natural resources research and monitoring projects to satisfy the requirements of data users and research scientists
  • Curate natural resources research data collected by other researchers, which includes accurately transferring data and reconciling inconsistencies, creating metadata records to document changes, and storing backup versions of original data files
  • Develop, promote, and follow data governance activities such as cataloging data, contributing to metadata management, data lineage, and data quality

Qualifications

Basic Requirement for General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Series 0401

  1. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

    or

  2. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education


In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience in the amounts listed below.

Minimum Qualifications:


For the GS-12: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience (GS-11 level or higher) performing 3 out of 4 of the following:
  • Maintaining interactive user interfaces, databases, and/or applications related to natural resources.
  • Writing recommendations for improvements to the procedures used for collecting, verifying, compiling, and summarizing strategic natural resource data
  • Providing technical support in the areas of user interface design, data visualization and analytics, and/or data applications
  • Analyzing data and defining data requirements and specifications in natural resource information management systems and/or user interface programs
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
