Duties

Help

  • Plans, develops, and conducts integrated communications campaigns and public affairs programs, including both informational and promotional activities.
  • Evaluates the impact and effectiveness of informational and promotional efforts and advises management on changes.
  • Promotes and publicizes the use and understanding of Census Bureau data.
  • Prepares communications materials on Census Bureau activities. Suggests approaches and assists in planning programs involving multimedia content.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: Working with professional social media public accounts on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Instagram. Managing social media content development, content planning, customer care, and analytics. Writing or editing short-form content for social media or other external-facing online platforms. Contributing to or executing strategic marketing and communications campaigns to advance a specific topic or mission. Using social media management tools such as Hootsuite, Sprinklr, Salesforce, or similar tools.

Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer.

If hired for this position with the Census Bureau, at its headquarters office located in Suitland, Maryland, you will be expected to temporarily telework to maximum extent while the headquarters building is being renovated. Once permitted to return to the office building, you will be expected to do so within 30 calendar days of receiving notification. At that time, you may be eligible to continue to telework or work remotely two or more days a pay period consistent with the Census Bureau's flexible telework and remote work policies and approval from your supervisor.
