About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees.

Duties

Help
  • Paints a variety of subassemblies, components and parts such as combat and tactical vehicles, fire control instruments, artillery weapons, small arms weapons, and electronic equipment.
  • Checks work order and/or based upon personal knowledge determines kind of paint job to be done.
  • Determines if items are properly cleaned and when required performs and/or the cleaning of surfaces by removing rust, scale, grease, dirt, moisture and other foreign substances.
  • Operates dipping vats for applying epoxy and/or other coatings.
  • Uses brush, spray paint equipment, sanders, buffers, and all hand tools common to the trade.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and makes minor repairs and adjustments to all equipment operated.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Painter~ without more than normal supervision. Receive oral and written instructions to complete paint jobs. Prepare surfaces for painting. Review work orders to determine work requirements. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Work requires continuous movement of hands and arms, reaching, bending, and lifting materials up to 10 pounds. The painter may be required to coat surfaces in cramped and hard to reach places. Required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Occasionally, may handle materials and equipment that weigh 40 pounds or more.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbent is required to wear protective clothing and equipment. The work is of a dirty nature and requires working for long periods of time in tiring positions, such as standing, bending, etc. Is exposed to cuts and bruises when operating paint equipment or tools in cleaning surfaces and also exposed to danger of inhaling harmful paint fumes. The work is performed in building that is moderately heated, lighted, and ventilated. The floors are of concrete and are often damp and slippery. Insures that hazardous materials/waste within work area are handled/processed within operating guidelines. Guidance for the proper handling of hazardous materials/waste is obtained through formal training efforts and specific guidance issued by the supervisor. Insures that storage drums, and other containers housing hazardous materials/waste are properly labeled and secured at all times. Reports any deficiencies to the supervisor. Properly disposes of hazardous materials/waste used/generated at work site. Immediately notifies supervisor of any accident or spill and initiates response actions as directed by supervisor. Since exposure to hazardous materials/waste is possible, wears protective clothing and equipment (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.) as situations warrant.
