Help

The Office of the Inspector General (OIG), Office of Investigations (OI) is seeking an Investigative Analyst who will be responsible for the collection, analysis, and visualization of financial and other investigative data from various sources, including but not limited to NSF and other government data sources, public or subpoenaed records, or information obtained from open-source search engines. 

  • Independently plans, organizes, and conducts research, analysis, and/or evaluation of information to assist investigators in ongoing investigations.
  • Develops complex investigative and analytic products and reports of investigations into grant and contract fraud, false claims act violations, embezzlement, and other misconduct.
  • Works closely with investigators to develop profile data and trends analysis.
  • Evaluates information from evidence, open sources, social media, public or subpoenaed records, and databases to correlate large amounts of information to show intent and prove guilt.
  • Prepares interim and comprehensive final reports for prosecutive and management officials.
  • Develops methods, techniques and approaches to problems that set patterns for use in subsequent investigations.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-13 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is demonstrated work experience related to compiling, analyzing, and the visualizations of financial and other investigative data from various sources; plans and conducts research, analysis, and evaluation of information to assist investigators in ongoing criminal and/or civil investigations to detect potential criminal or improper activity; identifies trends or indicators of illegal or improper activities involving grant and/or contract fraud; prepares investigative reports and presents results of investigations.

Education

Education may enhance skills required for this position; however, no substitution of education for specialized experience may be made at this level.

How you will be evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Category rating procedures will be used to rank and select eligibles.  Based on your responses to the occupational questionnaire, you will be assigned a score.  Your score will determine in which of three categories you will be placed:  Excellent, Very Good, or Good.  Under this process, veterans will be assigned to the appropriate category (without additional preference points) and then placed at the top of their category.  

Veterans with service-connected disability of 10% or more will be placed at the top of the highest quality category.

The information contained in your resume and supporting documentation will be compared to your responses to the Occupational Questionnaire to determine the degree to which you meet the competencies required of this position.
