Duties

Help

As a SUPERVISORY MUSEUM CURATOR, you will:

Plan, formulate, design, construct, and install temporary exhibits. Work with other staff members in developing themes and topics for new exhibits. Perform research in the holdings of the Library and select textual, audiovisual, and museum objects for display that will ensure a balanced, informative, and attractive exhibit. Develop floorplans and exhibit schemantics.

Oversee an established system of registration and cataloging of museum objects. This includes assigning accession numbers, recording the type and identity of an object, donor or other source, location, and other pertinent data. Oversee the maintenance of the database of over 100,000 objects as needed and ensure the completion of all required inventories.

Oversee and provide professional advice concerning the storage, repair, and preservation of an extremely varied museum collection, which includes 2 and 3-D artwork of all media, textiles, books, electronics, jewelry, and pop culture items from the 1990s.

Assist in planning and supervising special activities and programs sponsored by the Library. Give lectures and other formal presentations concerning museum related programs at professional meetings, informal presentations to community, civic, and educational groups, and personally conducts visiting dignitaries on tours of the museum and exhibits.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:

Supervising or leading a team or project in museum programs, to include producing, installing and maintaining exhibits;
AND
Managing the preservation, registration, security, and documentation of 3-dimensional objects in a museum;
AND
Supporting exhibits by speaking about the museum or its exhibits to the press or giving tours of the exhibits.

Education

In addition to the Specialized experience, applicants must meet the Basic Requirement for the GS-13 level:

Degree: museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field.
OR
Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
OR Four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study as shown above.


Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
