Duties

Help

  • Provides expert advice and guidance on government programs and policies which are of significant interest to the public and Congress, e.g. in juvenile justice and delinquency prevention programs that cut across or strongly influence a number of agencies, and/or the employee's recommendations directly impact key governmental functions or result in substantial redirection of Federal efforts or policies related to major juvenile justice and delinquency prevention national issues.
  • Serves as expert advisor in legal reviews of laws, regulations, policies and procedures related to Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDPA), the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), and the Federal Juvenile Delinquency Act (Chapter 403 of Title 18), as well as state juvenile justice statutes, state regulations, state policies and state procedures.
  • Coordinates the review and OJJDP policy position statements across the OJJDP Divisions on implementation of current laws, proposed legislation, and introduced legislation as well as amendments that OJJDP is required to review by OJP and other DOJ components.
  • Supervises a group of employees performing work at the GS-14 or equivalent level.
  • Plans and develops strategies for maximizing the potential of outreach project opportunities, enhancing DOJ OJP's visibility and interactions with its primary constituencies, and including Congress.
  • Maximizes DOJ OJP's outreach project with other constituencies, including the corporate/profit sector, related non-profit organizations, other federal government agencies, local and state governments, and interested local community groups.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience:
Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level. Specialized experience is experience which is in or related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Examples of specialized experience include:

  • Leading or managing government programs and policies related to juvenile justice and delinquency prevention programs.
  • Makes major recommendations and decisions related to policy formulation and long-range planning in connection with prospective changes in juvenile justice and delinquency prevention functions and programs.
  • Serving as the expert advisor to senior leaders on all matters related to the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDPA), the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), and the Federal Juvenile Delinquency Act (Chapter 403 of Title 18).
