Duties

Help

This position is in the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Office of Inspector General (OIG), Office of the Chief of Staff (OCOS), Office of Information Technology (OIT). OIT serves as the focal point for developing, coordinating, implementing, and maintaining OIG information resource management systems and provides technical direction to the OIG staff located across the nation in multiple offices. 

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will perform the following duties:

  • Serves as a System and Database Administrator for OIG applications, databases, servers, networks, and general support systems;
  • Designs software to ensure that IT systems are secure from unauthorized use, virus infection and other problems that would compromise classified information of overall system security;
  • Develops and monitors scripts, performing system administrator type functions and engineering system and database configurations; 
  • Reviews and evaluates on issues involving Information Systems (IS), EPA policy and procedures, proposed system changes to existing OIG systems; and
  • Develops training materials, conduct user-training sessions, and support other team members as necessary.

This is a Public Trust Position. Employment in this position requires a background investigation. Upon appointment, you may be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450. You may need to provide the information annually.  

Depending on your status, this position may require serving a 1-year probationary period.

You must meet time in grade requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

All applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal Service.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

GS-13: 

1) Coordinating the installation, maintenance, and operations of hardware and software to include: Virtual infrastructure (e.g., VMWare ESXi and Citrix virtual desktop and NetScaler), Active Directory Management, users, groups, and Group Policy, Oracle 12c+ databases, Microsoft SQL 2016+, Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft Server Operating Systems;

2) Implementing, monitoring, remediating security baselines and the Security and Privacy Controls for Information Systems and Organizations as defined in the NIST Special Publication 800-53;

3) Developing system test plans, user procedures, user training materials and conducting user-training sessions;

4) Identifying objectives, conceptualize innovative solutions, reconcile diverse viewpoints, and organize resources, and articulate requirements and potential solutions, both orally and in writing in a concise, and professional manner; and

5) Creating PowerShell modules to share with external sources. Using PowerShell for routine server administration tasks, such as software updates and user management.
