As a Student Trainee (Administrative and Office Support), you will:

  • Perform a variety of program analysis assignments and may independently perform routine or developmental assignments at the discretion of the supervisor.
  • Collect data from prescribed sources that are used by more senior analysts for incorporation into studies, program analyses, and reporting.
  • Assist with the preparation of briefings, talking points and/or reports for CFPB staff.
  • Draft, maintain and distribute reports for the organization.
  • Assist in performing general research on consumer financial trends and issues.
The CFPB is looking for summer student interns in the following divisions (offices):

Office of Director

The Office of Director is composed of four groups that work closely together to support the functions of the Director and Bureau as a whole. The four groups are Office of the Director, Office of Strategy, Office of Innovation, and Office of Equal Opportunity and Fairness.

Operations Division
The Operations Division is the operational support arm of the Bureau. The Division includes the following program offices supported by a central front office: Chief Experience Officer, Administrative Operations, Office of Human Capital, Technology and Innovation, Office of the Chief Financial Officer, Office of Procurement, and Chief Data Officer.

Research, Markets and Regulations Division
Research, Markets & Regulations is responsible for monitoring consumer financial markets, conducting research, and writing rules. The Division includes the following program offices supported by a central front office: Research, Markets, Regulations, Mortgage Markets, Small Business Lending Markets, and Consumer Credit, Payments, and Deposit Markets.

Consumer Education and External Affairs Division
The Consumer Education and Engagement Division provides information for American consumers to consider in their financial decision making process. The Division includes four program offices supported by a central front office: Public Affairs, Stakeholder Management, Consumer Education, and Consumer Response.

Supervision, Enforcement and Fair Lending Division
Supervision, Enforcement and Fair Lending ensures compliance with federal consumer financial laws by supervising market participants and bringing enforcement actions when appropriate. It includes the Office of Supervision Examinations, the Office of Supervision Policy, and the Office of Enforcement, as well as a central front office.

  • This appointment may be extended.

CONDITIONS OF INTERN EMPLOYMENT: If selected for this position, you will be required to:
  • Maintain status of student.
  • Must be pursuing a course of study related to the position being filled.
  • During the summer internship students are only eligible for a transportation subsidy.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the announcement's closing date. You must answer all job-related questions in the job questionnaire.

ELIGIBILITY: You MUST meet the definition of a STUDENT for the duration of your appointment. The definition of a student is: an individual accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis (as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled), including awardees of the Harry S. Truman Foundation Scholarship Program under Public Law 93842. Students need not be in actual physical attendance, so long as all other requirements are met. Students need not be enrolled in the summer as long as they are enrolled in both the preceding spring semester and subsequent fall semester. An individual who needs to complete less than the equivalent of half an academic/vocational or technical course load immediately prior to graduating is still considered a student for purposes of this Program.

General Experience for the CN-22 level: To qualify at CN-22, you must have one year of general experience with progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. For this position, examples of general experience include:

  • Assisting in conducting research; OR
  • Data analysis; OR
  • Data quality control for an organization; OR
  • Assisting in preparing reports, briefings, talking points and/or presentations to management.

OR

Education: Completion of two full academic year of post-high school study. Must be pursuing a course of study related to the position being filled.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week on your resume.

Education

This appointment is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program. You MUST submit transcripts or equivalent. Education may be substituted for experience as described in "Qualifications."
