Duties

Help

- Under the guidance of a supervisor or senior mechanic, functionally tests, inspects and troubleshoots a variety of specially, Instrumented, test, pre-production, standard and modified high performance, test modified, jet fighter/trainer aircraft
integrated avionics and electrical systems, sub-systems, and components for serviceability, proper installation, and operation, using appropriate test equipment, special tools, technical data, diagrams, blueprints etc.
- Under the guidance of a supervisor or senior mechanic, removes, inspects, repairs, overhauls, reinstalls or replaces standard and test modified aircraft system components.
- Maintain aircraft and maintenance records.
-Perform ground handling and servicing of assigned aircraft, including the launch, recovery, refueling, towing, washing, lubricating, jacking, etc.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This developmental position will be filled at the entry level grade (WG-11). It is targeted though WG-13 and the final full performance level of WG-13. Promotion to the next higher grade is contingent upon the employee being fully qualified at the next lower level.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600 Electronic Equipment Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Moderate to heavy lifting involved. Requires normal color vision, good hand-eye coordination, and ability to work in strained or cramped positions. Note: This position requires a pre-employment physical.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Subject to injury from high voltage electrical shock, high intensity noise levels from aircraft engines and aerospace ground equipment, possible exposure radio frequency radiation. Hazardous solvents and compounds used in some aspects of the job. Duties performed both inside and outside in all weather conditions.
