Major Duties: This is not an all-inclusive list

As a POLICE OFFICER (Title 32), GS-0083-7, you will:

  • Performs the full spectrum of police officer duties within the assigned jurisdictions: Incumbent has full powers of apprehension and detention, which entails carrying a firearm, mirandizing suspects, preserving evidence and testifying in court as it pertains to enforcing regulations within assigned jurisdiction.
  • Required to meet all requirements of Federal, DOD, AF, MAJCOM, State, and local level rules and regulations to maintain POST certification qualification as a police officer.
  • Patrols the installation on foot or in vehicles; responds to alarms, irregularities, and unusual or suspicious circumstances; and investigates the incidents.
  • Enforces traffic rules and regulations, including those related to speed, reckless and drunken driving.
  • Exercises search and assists local, state, or federal law enforcement with arrest authority, detains witnesses, apprehends suspects, interviews witnesses and other persons involved, and determines whether facts warrant apprehension or lesser action.
  • Appears in court to testify as required in Military Courts Martial or Federal and State Court proceedings.
  • Provides sworn testimony based on the investigative process, evidence gathered, witness' statements in criminal and traffic courts.
  • Upon notification, responds to Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) alarms and determines probable cause (actual or false alarm).
  • Responds to and investigates emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service, to include protests, active shooter events, and terrorist attacks.
  • Performs flight armorer duties, responsible for overseeing the appropriate arming of fellow police officers and MWD units.
  • Conducts investigations of crimes and complaints covering a wide range of subjects and allegations that are not within the scope of Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) or the scope of the higher level detectives assigned to the Squadron.
  • Investigations involve searching crime scenes for clues, interviewing witnesses, following leads, analyzing and evaluating evidence, and locating and detaining suspects. Interviews subjects, complainants and witnesses to obtain information, takes written statements; conducts examination of crime scenes; searches for evidence; identifies evidence; collects, preserves, and submits crime laboratory evidence such as fingerprints, bloodstains, suspected narcotics, weapons, castings of footprints and tire prints, documents, etc., using special investigative techniques and equipment; safeguards evidence and assures integrity is not compromised for further examination.
  • Analyzes facts to identify suspects and develops case information and facts for use in pressing charges and bringing suspects to trial.
  • Advises suspects of their rights. Testifies at hearings and in court.
  • Serves as the primary command and control (C2) function for all Integrated Defense forces.
  • Executes the Quick Reaction Checklists (QRC) to ensure proper execution of routine, emergency and alarm responses. Acts as the initial point of contact for all persons, activities, visitors and complainants either in person or telephonically regarding any activity that require police actions.
  • Monitors the installation alarmed facilities, which are linked to the primary monitor site.
  • Monitors the location of all police units.
  • Receives and records communications of emergencies, complaints, crimes, and accidents.
  • Accesses law enforcement databases to retrieve information and complete reports.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports covering activities and events occurring over the course of a shift.
  • Acts as the initial on scene commander for significant and catastrophic events (e.g. active shooter, terrorist attacks, and natural disasters) and initiates Air Force Incident Management System (AFIMS).
  • Preform additional duties are assigned.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Military Rank: Enlisted

All need to have the following :

  • National Guard Membership is required.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Must have a valid state driver's license.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Soldiers who accept a technician position may be terminated from the Bonus and Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP).
  • Must pass formal law enforcement training school as determined by NGB/A4 and obtain DoD Peace Officer Standardization and Training Certification.
  • Required to obtain first responder training/certifications in CPR techniques, self-aid buddy care, and first aid on the job and maintain annually.
  • Recurring training is required to keep the incumbent knowledgeable on the updated specialized tactics, techniques and procedures necessary for preparation and response to catastrophic events, terrorist attacks and related threats to installations.
  • Ability to employ 'infantry/SWAT' small unit tactics involving fire and maneuver, with rapid advancing movement between defensive positions, while wearing protective gear for extended periods of time,
  • Must obtain and maintain a government travel card. Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station.
  • Must complete the following duty position evaluations (DPEs) within the first two years of employment and be successfully re-evaluated in accordance with standards listed in AFI 36-2646, Security Forces Training and Standardization Evaluation Program. The DPE qualifications must occur in this order; (1)Installation Entry Controller, (2) Patrolman/Security Response Team, (3) Alarm Monitor and (4) Base Defense Operations Center Controller/Dispatcher.

Qualifications

General Experience:

  • Must have at least six months of working experiences and the successful completion of the Air Force Technical Training AFSC/Security Forces School
Specialized Experience:
Must have at least 12 months experiences in performing practical security force activities in direct support of the military weapon systems and physical security; law and order; and area security operations. The work experiences are in law enforcement, maintaining law and order, preserving the peace, and protecting life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of military installations. Have general experiences in protecting federal property from hazards such as sabotage, espionage, trespass, theft, fire, and accident or willful damage and destruction. Experiences in securing crime and incident scenes; apprehending and detaining suspects; searches persons and property; and collects, seize, and preserve evidence. Experienced in conducting interviews of witnesses and suspects and obtains statements and testifies in official judicial proceedings. Has work experiences in responding to disaster and relief operations and participates in contingencies. Knowledgeable in developing plans, policies, procedures, and detailed instructions to implement security force programs. Is competent and experienced in maintaining accountability and ensuring security for weapons, ammunition, and explosives utilized in the course of instruction in accordance with applicable Air Force Instructions. Experienced in implementing ground weapons training programs. Experienced in the control and safeguarding of arms, ammunition, and equipment; and, instructs ground weapons qualification training. Have competencies in managing weapon placement to security forces and ground defense force commanders. Have experiences in inspecting ground weapons, replacing unserviceable parts, and analyzing malfunctions by inspections and serviceability testing. Have experiences in firing weapons for accuracy and serviceability. Understands how to control and operate firing ranges and associated facilities to include supervising construction and rehabilitation. Experiences may include instructions on the proper use of handguns, rifles, machine guns and other base defense/ground combat skills equipment, in accordance with approved lesson plans and course control documents. Experienced in weaponry, laws, directives, programs, policies, and procedures governing Security Forces activities; installation security; weapon system and resource security; anti-terrorism; law enforcement and investigations; military working dogs; air base defense; training; pass and registration; civilian work force; and combat arms.

OTHER SERIES QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS AND SELECTIVE FACTORS:
1. Current U.S. citizenship, naturalized citizen or permanent resident.
2. Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with selective service.
3. Must possess a valid state driver's license to operate government motor vehicles (GMV) in accordance with AFI 24-301, Vehicle Operations.
4. Never convicted of domestic violence IAW the Lautenberg Amendment.
5. No history of excessive alcohol use or arrested in the past two years for two or
more alcohol related incidents regardless of disposition, except when proven not guilty.
6. No more than one active wage garnishment for delinquency.
7. No more than two delinquent charge off/collection (>= 30 days) payments within last two years.
8. Within three years prior to entry into military service, was never terminated from
civilian employment for reasons of misconduct, theft, or alcohol use.
9. Must not have used, distributed, or manufactured illicit narcotics or been arrested for any narcotics use, distribution or manufacturing.
10. Have not sniffed or used a substance to obtain an altered consciousness state from
aerosol spray, lighter fluid, petro chemical, adhesives, Freon, or any other chemical for a purpose not intended for use.
11. Qualified to bear firearms according to AFI 31-117, "Arming and Use of Force by Air Force Personnel".
12. Never convicted by a general, special, or summary courts-martial.
13. Never received non-judicial punishment under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) which resulted in either reduction or suspended reduction in grade, or correctional custody for offenses involving substantiated drug abuse as defined in AFI 44-121, "Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment (ADAPT) Program".
14. No acts of larceny, wrongful appropriation, robbery, burglary, housebreaking, misconduct in combat defined in UCMJ Articles 99-106, or any act that harmed or had the potential to harm the physical safety or well-being of animals to include Military Working Dogs.
15. Never convicted by a civilian court of a Category One, Two, or Three offense, nor exceeded the accepted number of Category Four offenses. The Category Three and Four traffic offenses alone are not disqualifying. NOTE: Categories of offenses are described and listed in AFI 36-2002, "Regular Air Force and Special Category Accessions, Uniform Guide List of Typical Offenses".
16. No documented record of gang affiliation.
17. No fear of working around nuclear weapons or nuclear components.

Education

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
For entry into the authorized specialty code, completion of high school or General Equivalency Diploma is mandatory. Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience are used to meet the requirements for the military ranks, as specified in the Air Force Enlisted Classification Directory (AFECD).
