Duties

Help
  • You will serve as a Quality Assurance Specialist in the QUALITY ASSURANCE DEPARTMENT of SUPERVISOR OF SHIPBUILDING GROTON.
  • You will plan, develop, implement and maintain comprehensive process control programs designed to evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of contractor processes such as metal joining, nondestructive testing and calibration.
  • You will schedule, plan and conduct quality program audits of various contractor systems and processes.
  • You will plan and conduct contract reviews for determination of quality program requirements and review the contractor's procedures, practices, instructions and directives.
  • You will conduct contract reviews for contract compliance, completeness, adequacy, practicality and conflict.
  • You will plan and conduct scheduled procedure evaluations for compliance and program operation adequacy.
  • You will initiate appropriate level of corrective actions including Corrective Action Requests (CARS) and corrective action letters for deficiencies identified during conduct of duties and plans for appropriate follow-up on corrective actions.
  • You will prepare written reports, memoranda and correspondence detailing results of assignments, making oral presentations and engaging in discussions dealing with technical and quality matters.
  • You will maintain, analyze and evaluate data resulting from review, evaluations, product verification inspections and audits.
  • You will review, analyze and evaluate contractor generated data and reports.
  • You will perform Product Verification Inspections (PVI) and In-process Evaluations (IE) on the contractor's manufacturing, fabrication, installation, testing and inspection techniques for component, structures, and systems.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Non-Destructive Test (NDT) Level II Inspector certifications in at least three methods (MT, PT and VT) within the first six months of employment with SUPSHIP.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: applying quality assurance techniques (e.g. procedure reviews, audits and quality data evaluations) to detect unsatisfactory trends or weaknesses in contractors' quality systems and making recommendations to ensure contractor compliance with technical requirements during the construction of nuclear submarines.

Education

Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree with a major study in quality assurance, statistics, mathematics, production management, industrial management, computer science, engineering, engineering technology, physical sciences, textiles or other fields related to the position.

OR

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in one of the major study fields above.

OR

A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
