Verifying, collecting, labeling, processing and testing lab specimens. Incumbent is also responsible for inventorying and ordering laboratory supplies with supply department at the VA Central California Healthcare System, Fresno facility.
Incumbent will receive/interpret requests for procedures. Documenting patient complains and/or history of patient illness, communicating with Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) members, and any other repetitive procedures used to diagnose and treat medical conditions in a patient access/clinical flow setting.
The incumbent will provide administrative coverage during a temporary absence of an assigned staff member or a critical need as assigned by supervisor.
H/she will maintain workload data as needed and will submit to clinic manager when necessary.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/29/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR): Is a Basic Requirement
Specialized experience in technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings OR technical support work in a closely related field (e.g. biological laboratory technician work) that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled.

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Training laboratory/hospital staff in specimen collection and processing
Performing waived and/or moderate complex testing
Maintaining appropriate inventory levels for phlebotomy/specimen processing supplies
Familiarity with laboratory regulations

Physical Requirements: The incumbent must have the ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods. There must also be a high degree of eye - hand coordination when performing phlebotomy functions.
