Summary

This position is part of the TX USPFO, located at Camp Mabry in Austin, Texas. The primary purpose is to transport supplies and equipment intra and inter State using a variety of wheeled vehicles to haul cargo and fuel, transport passengers or to tow or recover equipment. Vehicles are driven in restricted traffic environments on Government installations, and over public roads and highways, or under cross-country conditions.

Duties

Help

As a MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR with the Texas Army National Guard, your duties will include, but will not be limited to

  • Operates primarily straight-in-line trucks and/or truck tractors with semi-trailers which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 32,000 pounds. Required to operate special purpose or auxiliary devices where a knowledge of such devices does not exceed the level of knowledge and skill required to operate the vehicle safely in complicated traffic situations.
  • Ensures shipping and accounting documents are with the shipment and reflect actual condition, quantities and type of material, including manual turn in and issue documents. Completes log books, maintenance records, reports and other transportation documents for accurate accounting.
  • Prepares and submits requests for over-dimensional permits to Defense Movement Coordinator (DMC) for military movement involving military vehicles and through the Commercial Transportation Branch for non-military vehicles. Coordinates with units, maintenance activities, Central Issue Facility (CIF), Defense Reutilization Management Office (DRMO), Property Book Office (PBO), and Single Stock Fund Activities for pick up and delivery.
  • Performs warehouse work, as required, to include issuing, receiving and inventorying equipment, supplies and materials; loading and unloading of trucks; storing and pulling warehouse stock; packing and unpacking material; and repairing or replacing items on equipment.
  • Performs a variety of servicing and operator preventive maintenance work on assigned vehicles.
  • Accomplishes the full spectrum of support for state and Federal National Guard operations, training, readiness missions, natural disasters, and Homeland Defense/Defense Support of Civil Authorities (HLD/DSCA).

Appointment Factor(s): This is an Excepted Service position that requires active membership in a compatible military assignment in the Texas National Guard (TXNG) and wear of the military uniform. Applicants must be a current member of the National Guard, Reserves, or be on Active Duty and be eligible and willing for immediate transfer to the TXNG. Remarks:
  • Must have operator maintenance ability for all types of equipment and have a Commercial Driver License.
  • Currency on all types of loading equipment (forklifts, cranes, winch systems).
  • Currency on out-state tractor/trailer height/weight requirements an on HAZMAT and OSHA requirements.
  • Must be able to drive long distances, remain overnight at various locations, as necessary, and work during weekends and periods outside of the normal work day.
  • Veterans' preference is not applicable to this position.
  • This is a Bargaining Unit position.
  • The incumbent must have, at a minimum, a completed National Agency Check (NAC) prior to position assignment and be able to secure and maintain a secret clearance within 12 months of appointment.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
Military Requirements

Compatible Military Assignment (per UMR): Applicants need not be assigned to the position or possess the MOS to apply or be considered; however, applicant must be Duty MOS (DMOS) assigned to a compatible position in accordance with statutes and National Guard Bureau regulations within 12 months of appointment.

Qualifications

To be considered for qualification, your resume must include relevant experience with beginning and ending dates of employment/experience reflecting the following:

Specialized Experience Required
To qualify at the WG-8 grade level, your resume must include relevant experience with beginning and ending dates of employment/experience reflecting 18 months experience or training in the following: Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to operate one or more motor vehicles including platform trucks, van trucks, fuel trucks, stake trucks, dump trucks, and trash removal trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 11,700 kilograms (26,000 pounds) and up to 14,400 kilograms (less than 32,000 pounds). Experience operating vehicles and tractors, some of which may be equipped with special-purpose powered equipment. Experience operating platform, van, stake and dump trucks, refueling vehicles passenger buses or ambulance buses.
