Duties

Help

You will serve as a Public Affairs Specialist, responsible for delivering information services required to support the athletic programs and training objectives of the Academy.  He/she is expected to be articulate and advocate on behalf of the sports program

Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Serving as the primary manager and content creator of the official Athletic Division website
  • Overseeing official Athletic Division social media accounts.
  • Compiling and submits statistics to the National Collegiate Athletic Association for all sports.
  • Serving as the information contact for news media, other college Sports Information Directors, and the public at large.
  • Coordinating with all members of the coaching staff the proper procedure for reporting results in any event which takes place away from the Academy.
  • Preparing/writing all digital and printed media guides, single sport brochures, and programs, providing copy material, editing, and coordinating the publication and distribution of the finished programs.

Qualifications

At the GS-09 level: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the federal service.

Examples of specialized experience include:

-Experience designing and/or implementing traditional and digital media strategies.

- Experience generating, editing, publishing, and/or sharing engaging content on a daily basis through traditional and digital media platforms. 

- Experience developing new information materials including news releases, communications action plans, feature articles, communications tool kits, and bulletins that increase communication with the agency's audiences.

- Experience planning and implementing communications campaigns to convey information to a wide range of internal and external audiences on a variety of initiatives, programs, policies, and activities. 

- Experience facilitating strategic communication initiatives in coordination with senior leaders, program offices, and intradepartmental and interagency partners.

- Experience staying up to date with current technologies and/or trends in digital media, design tools and applications.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

How you will be evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

We will review your résumé and supporting documentation to ensure you meet the basic qualification requirements. If you meet the minimum qualifications, your experience, education and training will be rated using the on-line assessment to place you in one of three categories.

The necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities to perform this job are:

  1. Knowledge of desktop publishing, and relevant sports information software programs and the skill necessary to complete the work in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
  2. Skill in writing and editing news and feature articles. In addition, must have outstanding media/social media relation skills and be able to deal comfortably with a nationwide media base.
  3. Skill in effectively interacting with news media representatives (digital media, newspapers, radio, and occasionally TV.)
  4. Skill in evaluating the news value or communication potential of written or visual material, including photo’s, illustrations, etc
  5. Knowledge of statistics and ability to compile and compute statistics for NCAA sports. In addition, must be able to use computer-driven statistical programs.
