***This is a Title 32 Excepted Service National Guard position which requires military membership***

This position is located in an Air National Guard Base, Component Numbered Air Force (cNAF), Air Operations Group (AOG), Air Support Squadron (ASUS). The purpose of this position is to provide technical and analytical guidance and support for network hardware and software to include various servers and management terminals utilized by Air Control units, considering the current tactics and doctrine. The incumbent performs analytical and evaluative duties related to computer networks to provide information technology and communications functions and services which support programs essential to Air National Guard daily operations, training, and readiness missions. Incumbent is responsible for planning and coordinating mission accomplishments and training requirements of functionally assigned guard member. Due to the unique mission of the cNAF, this PD cannot be used in any other organization.


1. Configures, manages, monitors, programs and trouble-shoots various tactical and non-tactical network and application server hardware, operating system software, and peripheral network equipment such as routers, bridges, switches, attached cabling system, network interface cards, modems, multiplexers, concentrators, boundary protection devices (firewall), and print services for both classified and unclassified networks.

2. Coordinates with internal and external functions for network design, operation, and address resolution.

3. Analyzes equipment and software reliability and utilization to identify and correct problem areas and to establish network performance levels.

4. Performs in-depth analysis of systems related to proposals for change, in order to develop or modify information systems to meet tactical network user requirements.

5. As required, accomplishes risk analysis, accreditation, and certification packages to include disaster recovery plan in accordance with agency requirements.

6. Ensures mobilization readiness of section personnel and equipment.

7. As required, employee performs some limited supervisory functions over subordinate staff through the planning, assignment, and review of work; granting of leave; providing recommendations on training requirements, performance standards, and ratings; and effecting minor disciplinary actions such as warnings and reprimands.

8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Military Grades: E5 - E7

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training that has provided a basic knowledge of data processing functions and general management principles that enabled the applicant to understand the stages required to automate a work process. Experience may have been gained in work such as computer operator or assistant, computer sales representative, program analyst, or other positions that required the use or adaptation of computer programs and systems.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: - Must have at least 36 months experience, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls. Experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment. Experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion.

Education

Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience:
For the GS-5 level, a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree may be substituted for the experience requirements. At the GS-7 level, one full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement. At the GS-9 level, a masters or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree may be substituted. At the GS-11 level, a Ph.D. or equivalent, or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
