Duties

Help
  • Assist in child and youth team sports, age-appropriate fitness and health initiatives, skill-building clinics, and community outreach. Assist in managing an active program of volunteer coaches and coach certification.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation that promotes positive growth and development of children and youth. Assist with providing program oversight and accountability for the performance of staff and safety of program participants.
  • Ensure programs follow the National Standards for Youth Sports (NAYS). Trains and monitors coaches in accordance with National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA) guidelines. Supervises volunteers as required.
  • Assist supervisor in developing and managing budget and procurement of supplies and equipment. Collect and maintain up-to-date statistical data for planning and reports. Ensure compliance with requirements and Child and Youth Service (CYS) standards.
  • Perform a full range of supervisory functions to staff and assist in recruitment and selection actions. Prepare reports, surveys, and briefings for the command and installation on matters pertaining to CYS.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older at time of appointment or placement into the position.
  • Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.
  • Meet qualification/eligibility/physical/background requirements for this position.
  • Must have current health assessment which documents good mental and physical health, freedom from communicable disease, and immunizations in accordance with current Army and DoD policy including annual influenza vaccinations.
  • A one year probationary period may be required (either initially or upon conversion, if applicable).
  • Successful completion of annual training requirements within the prescribed time frame and demonstrated on the job competence is required.
  • May be subject to varying and/or rotating shifts to include split shifts between 6:00 A.M.to 8:00 P.M., nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) Check.
  • Complete and signed DA 3433 is required prior to entrance on duty.
  • Travel to on and off post locations may be required.
  • The dual compensation guidelines DO NOT apply to this position. GS and NAF employees holding FLEX positions are eligible to apply for this position.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree or higher which included a major course of study or at least 24 semester hours in physical education.

OR

All of the following equivalent in scope and complexity to the next lower grade level:

1. Experience in the planning, supervision, administration, or delivery of a sports or physical education program which included a variety of individual and team sports.
2. Experience in providing skills development and teaching the techniques of various sports.
3. Experience coaching multiple sports or providing coaches with sports-specific training in coaching techniques and required skills/fundamentals.

Recommended Highly Preferred (In addition to meeting the degree or experience requirements above):

  • Highly Preferred candidates will possess experience in the planning, evaluation, or delivery of a sports program or curriculum specifically for children or youth; or at least 12 semester hours in college coursework directly related to children or youth (i.e., PE for children, motor skills development, childhood development, early/elementary/secondary education, health/nutrition for children, child/adolescent psychology, etc.)
Additional Highly Preferred Criteria:
  • Experience working in an Army Youth Sports program.
  • Knowledgeable in CYMS.
  • Familiar with initiating and interpreting background checks.
  • Has participated in an Army Higher Headquarters Inspection.
Please Note: NAYS Youth Sports Clinician certification must be acquired after on-boarding.
