The Sexual Assault Response Coordinator:

  • Supervises Victim Advocate/Prevention Educators (VA/PEs), as well as Volunteer Victim Advocates (VVAs) and Midshipmen Victim Advocates (MVAs), in responding to sexual assault, sexual or gender-based harassment, relationship violence, stalking, and retaliation incidents on campus or at sea.
  • Guides VA/PEs in researching, developing, planning, and conducting SAPR education and training for supervisors, managers, employees, and Midshipmen to include response to and prevention of sexual assault, sexual or gender-based harassment, relationship violence, stalking, and retaliation. Conducts a bystander intervention program. Provides continual training and technical assistant. Oversees training by victim advocates.\-
  • Coordinates and supervises or conducts Sea Year specific training. Along with VA/PEs and the Sea Year Liaison (SLL), advises tee Director of Professional Development and Career Services on Midshipmen training needs and on other SAPR issues.
  • Works to remove barriers to Midshipmen reporting sexual assault, sexual or gender0based harassment, relationship violence, stalking, and retaliation.
  • Maintains appropriate Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office (SAPRO) records, including the case tracker, intake forms, and training records in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Advises the Director on content and applicability of SAPRO policy documents and Standard Operating Procedures. Takes action to keep policies and procedures current and accurate. Generates ideas for new program, policies, studies, and approaches. Ensures the organization's strategic plan, mission, vision, and values are communicated and integrated into the prevention efforts.

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated middle to senior level professional possessing not only the skills and compassion necessary to counsel student victims of sexual assault, sexual or gender-based harassment, relationship violence or stalking, but also the ability to communicate directly and honestly with senior leaders, faculty, and staff members who may have different levels of understanding about their responsibilities as part of a sexual assault prevention and response program.  The candidate must have the intelligence and ingenuity to create training products and contribute to policy development, and must be capable of adjusting to a demanding work environment characterized by tight timelines, shifting priorities, and flexing schedules.  The individual must be organized, imaginative, and attentive to details, with selfless dedication to helping others live with and learn about sexual assault. 

Highly Desirable: The candidate should have victim advocacy experience with victims of sexual assault, sexual or gender-based harassment, relationship violence or stalking aged 17-25, preferably in a higher education setting.  The candidate should have knowledge of Title IX and its regulations and will preferably have experience working in a Title IX program at an institution of higher education. The candidate should have experience in forensic interviewing or trauma informed interviewing techniques, exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail as well as excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • SELECTIVE SERVICE: Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for the Selective Service.
  • PCS/RELOCATION/RECRUITMENT: Permanent Change of Station (PCS), Relocation, and Recruitment Incentive authorization varies by position/selection.
  • RESIDENCE: The person selected for this position is required to reside on the Academy grounds in assigned campus housing and pay a monthly housing rental fee.
  • PROBATIONARY PERIOD: Subject to completion on one-year probationary period for Supervisory or Managerial position.
  • SUPERVISORY PROBATIONARY PERIOD: New supervisors must complete a 1-year probationary period (unless already completed).

Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience requirements.

To qualify for the Grade 13, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-12, it must include:

  • 1 to 3 years professional experience working with victims of sexual assault, sexual or gender-based harassment, relationship violence or stalking.  Demonstrated organizational skills and pays great attention to detail.  Experience managing multiple, competing priorities and meeting deadlines. Experience developing, modifying, and instructing training course content and materials. The candidate must be able to create and deliver training in the areas of sexual assault, sexual and gender-based harassment, relationship violence, stalking, and retaliation.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW).
