This is to advise you that we will SOON be accepting applications for the following career track within our Public Buildings Service (PBS). A component of GSA considered to be the landlord and real estate agent for the entire federal government:

  • Contracting Trainee: The Contracting Trainee (1199 Series) is part of the Pathways Internship Program.
  • If you become an intern, you will be expected to help with a range of tasks and will be afforded the opportunity to learn the scope and foundation of GSA/PBS acquisition responsibilities, assisting contract specialists and management with day-to-day operations. Assignments are made with the objective of challenging your abilities and initiative, and to provide opportunities to display self-motivation. The ultimate goal is to give you a good overview of the organization and set you up for success if you are offered a permanent position after graduation.

Education

In order to be placed in a permanent position after completing the Pathways Intern program, you must:

  1. Meet the qualification requirements for the position you are being placed in.
  2. Maintain an acceptable performance under GSA's approved performance management system.
  3. Receive a favorable recommendation from your supervisor at the end of the program.
  4. Meet all the training and development requirements outlined in the GSA Pathways policy.

GSA is not obligated to make an offer of permanent employment to you after you have completed the Program.

Relocation expenses will NOT be paid.

Additional information

If you participate in our Pathways Intern program, you will be required to:

  • Receive formal training directly linked to your employment field in addition to soft skill training
  • Serve a trial period, which will allow your supervisor to evaluate your conduct and performance on the job and determine if our appointment will become final
  • Sign a participant agreement
  • Complete a bachelor's degree by June 2024
  • Work full-time from June 5 - August 12, 2023
  • Commit to working part-time during the school year to complete the required hours before graduating in May/June 2024.

We will use a method called Category Rating to assess your application. Here’s how it will work:

  • You will answer job-related questions, which will measure your overall possession of the competencies or knowledge, skills,
    and abilities required for the job.

    • Best Qualified = Candidates scoring between 95 - 100
    • Well Qualified = Candidates scoring between 85 - 94
    • Qualified = Candidates scoring between 70 - 84

Within each category, veterans will receive selection priority over non-veterans.
