Summary

This position will serve as a Practical Nurse in one of the Ambulatory Health Centers located in Anadarko or Carnegie, Oklahoma or Oklahoma City Area Hospital located in Lawton, OK. Services available at the hospital include emergency, general medicine and surgery, pediatrics and outpatient services. This position reports to the Supervisory Clinical Nurse in charge.

Help

  • Serves as a member of the health care team with an assigned complex patient load.
  • Performs a wide range of diagnostic support duties, which includes taking vital signs, documenting patient's pain perception, obtaining specimens, administering medications, receiving and recording lab results, positioning patients and assisting physicians with procedures.
  • Supports patient and/or family in the integration of the patient plan of care toward changes to improve health.
  • Observes and documents pertinent information regarding patient status in the electronic health record.
  • Participates in planning patient care that is consistent with accepted nursing standards and in compliance with prescribed medical treatment plan.

Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Fingerprint results and background investigation documentation must be cleared prior to hire. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

License: Candidates must be currently licensed to practice as practical or vocational nurses in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia or must have applied for a license to practice. Applications of candidates possessing a license must be accompanied by a certified or photostatic copy of the license showing expiration date, a notarized statement attesting to the fact, or a citation of the license number and State issuing it (or applicants must list their license number on their resume, along with the expiration date). Acceptable verification of licensure includes a print out from a State Board of Nursing website (or other applicable license verification website that reflects your licensure status). Non-licensed candidates who have completed their training may be appointed subject to obtaining the required license during the probationary period. Those not licensed must furnish the date on which they applied for a license and the jurisdiction involved. No person appointed pending licensure may be retained beyond the probationary period if licensure has not been attained.

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:

GS-06: One year of nursing experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Your experience is equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level and includes nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples include: observing, recording and reporting changes in behavior of patients and taking action to alleviate problems; initiating a plan of action to carry out a nursing plan of care; providing education to patients and families of patients; performing a range of treatment procedures such as inserting catheters, sterile dressing changes, administering medications, obtaining peripheral IV access, giving immunizations; and assisting physicians and registered nurses with procedures.

The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain licensure requirements. If licensure is not maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.

Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption. If an exemption is approved then wearing a face mask and regular testing for COVID-19 will be required. Your Human Resources Specialist will provide a list of documents acceptable as vaccination proof and instructions on how to submit your vaccination documentation or how to request a medical or religious exemption, if needed.

This Open Continuous Announcement (OCA) allows acceptance of applications throughout the year with eligible applicants being placed on the OCA register and referred for consideration when vacancies occur. Appointment may be Permanent, Temporary, or Excepted Time-Limited with tour of duty of Full-Time, Part-Time or Intermittent. The Agency has the option of extending Time-Limited appointments. Temporary positions not to exceed 12 months or less are subject to termination at any time. The Agency has the option of extending Temporary position appointments for up to a maximum of two years.

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
