Duties

Help
  • You will respond to all structure fires, operate hydrants, lay hose lines, perform ladder operations, operates nozzles and other extinguishing equipment to effect fire suppression.
  • You will perform assigned firefighting tasks at major warehouse structures, ordinance storage facilities/loading areas, four story barracks, older wood constructed barracks, and major above ground fuel facilities.
  • You will respond to all emergency alarms involving vehicles ammunition, gasoline, electrical hazardous material, brush and structures.
  • You will respond to all medical emergencies and provide advanced patient assessment and treatment for victims of fire, sudden illness, accidental injuries, childbirth, and other events requiring medical intervention.
  • You will make independent preliminary assessments of patient's condition and select from a variety of prescribed protocols the one which you consider appropriate under the given circumstances.
  • You will prioritize treatments for patients having multiple problems and employ a variety of established emergency medical/medicine techniques, methods, and equipment to the appropriate medical facility.
  • You will detect the presence of potentially hazardous materials to maintain containment and control.
  • You will maintain care of emergency equipment (e.g., backboards, suction devices, splints, stretchers, oxygen delivery systems, monitoring equipment, specialized kits and bags) to ensure safety upon treating patients.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You are required to possess and maintain a current valid United States Driver?s License
  • You are required to possess and maintain a valid State of California EMT-Paramedic certification or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician EMT-Paramedic Certification.
  • You are required to possess and maintain Inland County Emergency Medical Agency (ICEMA) Paramedic Accreditation within sixty (60) days of appointment.
  • You will be required to work a 72-hour work week and rotating shift work.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position requires participation in the DoD Firefighter Physical Fitness Program to include a physical exercise program and annual physical examination.

  • This is a Mission Essential (ME) position. In the event of a crisis situation, the incumbent must continue to perform the ME duties until relieved by proper authority.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

GS-09:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing fire prevention and protection and emergency operations, including responding to medical emergencies (e.g. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR); basic, intermediate, and advanced life support (ALS); airway management, emergency childbirth, mass casualty triage), hazardous material responses AND transporting emergency personnel and patients safely to the emergency room.

GS-08:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Performing firefighter duties (e.g., control and extinguish fires, fire rescues and reducing or eliminating potential fire hazards), performing and providing emergency medical response and treatment (e.g. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR); basic, intermediate, and advanced life support (ALS); airway management, emergency childbirth, mass casualty triage) AND transporting emergency personnel and patients safely to the emergency room.

- Firefighter I
- Firefighter II
- Hazardous Materials Awareness- Hazardous Materials Operations
- Hazardous Materials Technician or Hazardous Materials MSCs Product Control & Mass Decon
- Driver/Operator Pumper- Driver/Operator Aerial
- Fire Instructor I

For the GS-08 grade:
You must be certified by either the DOD, the Pro-Board, or the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or obtain within a maximum of 24 months after appointment date:
- Firefighter I
- Firefighter II
- Hazardous Materials Awareness
- Hazardous Materials Operations
- Hazardous Materials Technician or Hazardous Materials MSCs Product Control & Mass Decon
