Duties

Help

  • Works in partnership with the Director of Learning & Audience Engagement to oversee the learning and audience engagement goals of the institution. 

  • Conceptualizes goals for initiatives, develops efficient workflow processes, ensures audience is the focus of all that we do, and aids in creating a healthy positive working environment for the department.

  • Assists the Director of Learning & Audience Engagement in coordinating and directing the LAE team, which includes program and initiative responsibilities.

  • Presents complex museum education concepts and ideas and to demonstrate extensive teaching methods cogently before assembled groups.
  • Stays abreast of the latest conversations in design and design education and speaks to key stakeholders such as local and national partners; trustees and funders.

  • Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets, and adjusts priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work, assigns work based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of the assignment and the subordinate’s capabilities and evaluates completed work

You must meet these Basic Education Requirements:

Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position.

or

Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.

In addition to the Basic Requirements above you must have the following:

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. 

For this position Specialized experience is defined as serving as a leader responsible for overseeing learning and audience engagement goals, managing budgets, collaborating with internal and external partners, audience data management, leading and mentoring education staff.

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system.

For this position Specialized experience is defined as responsible for overseeing the learning and audience engagement goals, developing and managing budgets, managing and analyzing audience data, and leading and mentoring education, volunteer and contractual staff. A strong working history with working with professional designers at a national level in an education setting. Experience with hosting successful relationships with designers, funders, external partners and senior leadership.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.

Best Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements and excels in most of the job related competencies above.

Better Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements and satisfies most of the job related competencies above.

Good Category - Meets the minimum qualification requirements, but does not satisfy most of the job related competencies above to a substantive degree.

This category rating process does not add veterans' preference points, but protects the rights of veterans by placing them ahead of non-veterans within each quality category. The Hiring Manager may make selections from the highest quality category (Best Category) provided no veteran in that category is passed over to select a non-veteran in that category unless the requirements of 5 U.S.C. 3317(b) or 3318(b) are satisfied.
