Duties

Help
  • Maintenance Worker Helpers perform trade work assignments associated with the maintenance and repair of grounds, buildings, exterior structures and related fixtures and utilities.
  • This includes the maintenance of items such as tables, signs, shelters, water systems, pumps, and equipment.
  • Other duties may involve cleaning restrooms and comfort stations, collecting and removing trash from facilities, and performing routine grounds maintenance (fertilizing, transplanting, laying sod, pruning, trimming, mowing, etc.).
  • A typical work assignment requires a general familiarity with the practices, equipment and tools used by the maintenance personnel in accomplishing their assigned duties.
  • This includes operating, under close supervision, equipment and tools such as heavy trucks, forklifts, lawn mowers, power saws, drills, cutting torches.
  • A general understanding of some of the common practices and simple tasks of carpentry, plumbing, painting, and cement trades are required.
  • At the Maupin, Prineville, Lorane and Colton, Oregon locations, maintenance workers will also perform herbicide spraying and operate chainsaws.
  • At the Maupin, OR location, the nature of the duties performed require access to recreation sites on the Deschutes River by raft.
  • Applicants for the Maupin, OR location need to have the physical ability for and the experience using rafts and/or drift boats (non-motorized) on class III+ white water rapids or have the ability to be certified to do so based on technical expertise.

WG-05: At this level, Maintenance Worker Helper duties include simpler and more routine assignments associated with maintenance and repair of buildings and related structures, facilities, and utilities, cleaning, grounds, and other assigned helper duties. Work may be performed under greater supervision and with more review or with less difficulty. Once learned, simple, routine, tasks are carried out without much supervision.

Physical Effort: Works on ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and rooftops, and in cramped and hard-to-reach places. Duties require the employee to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Heavier items may occasionally be lifted with assistance of lifting devices or other workers. May work on steep terrain covered slash and debris.

Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside, often in the presence of dirt, dust, grease, and fumes. Assignments involve exposure to the possibility of scrapes, burns, cuts, bruises and infects. Workers may be exposed to bad weather. Duties often require the use of protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.
