Duties

Help
  • This position serves as an Administrative Support Assistant with a District Office of the Bureau of Land Management.
  • These positions independently perform a wide variety of functions related to budget and finance, human resources, natural resources, travel, timekeeping/payroll, correspondence, records, collections, and public contact.
  • Serves as a clerical point of contact on specific resource programs such as grazing, cultural resources, wild horse and burros, abandoned mines, minerals, timber sales, fire, recreation and permitting.
  • Prepare resource related reports, charts, graphs and other documents and review and/or edit content to be included in environmental assessments, resource management plans of other planning documents.
  • Maintain files, identify issues in resource data and work with specialists to resolve.
  • May assist property management officials in inventories, reports, tracking or locally managed property. May serve as a collection officer, preparing receipts, records and tracking forms.
  • May prepare, edit and finalize correspondence for office supervisors and managers. Disseminate correspondence, track and maintain records.
  • Provide general information concerning office operations to the public both orally and in writing.

Qualifications

GS-6: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 level - OR- one (1) full year of graduate education in which the education is directly related to the work of the position -OR- a combination of education and experience.

GS-7: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) - OR- one (1) full year of graduate education in which the education is directly related to the work of the position -OR- a combination of education and experience.

Specialized Experience Requirements: Examples: Clerical or administrative support work in a variety of programs or functions, such as budget, procurement, timekeeping, payroll and customer service; processing a wide variety of transactions for more than one type of assigned activity; experience in interpreting and applying regulations and requirements to process such actions; identifying issues or problems and seeking alternative solutions based on the applicable rules, regulations, and procedures.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical and Work Demands: The work is typically sedentary. Some work may require periods of walking, standing, bending, or driving a motor vehicle. The incumbent may frequently lift relatively light boxes, materials, and supplies and /or carry file folder's copied materials, books, and other similar materials. Work is typically located in an adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated office environment. The work environment may involve everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, mail distribution centers, meeting and training rooms, libraries, or motor vehicles.

Education

If qualifying based on education, you will need to clearly state your undergraduate/graduate degree(s) and you must submit copies of all transcripts or a list of college courses that include hours and grades from an accredited U.S. college/university. As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.

At some duty locations this position may require you to have a current valid driver's license.
