This Security Assistant position is located in the National Transportation Vetting Center (NTVC), Vetting Analysis Division (VAD), Intelligence and Analysis (I&A), Transportation Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Adheres to security procedures and protocols while determining passenger vetting status, conducting watchlist checks, and verifying passenger identity.
  • Resolves customer-service and security inquiries per established procedures or escalates to Supervisor when necessary. Able to preview information, conduct research, and provide solutions in a time-constrained environment.
  • Utilizes government and commercial databases to verify the vetting status of traveling passengers and gate pass holders, conducting watchlist checks, and establishing identity of passengers who do not present acceptable identification.
  • Supports program analysis functions and processes, i.e., applies analytical techniques to perform a combination of routine and multiple and varying assignments assisting managers and other employees in day-to-day operations.
  • Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to support special initiatives, business processes, and procedures related to passenger resolution, watchlist or database checks, and identity verification.

Qualifications

To qualify for the SV-F Pay Band (equivalent to GS-9), you must have one year of specialized experience at the SV-E (equivalent to GS-7/8), Pay Band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such Specialized Experience is defined as:

  • Interpreting, analyzing, and applying policies and procedures to draw conclusions concerning the vetting of individuals;
  • Resolving customer service inquiries and briefing supervisors;
  • Tracking applications (such as driver's license applications, passport applications) and preparing statistical reports; and
  • Utilizing computer software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point, to prepare presentations, track information, and generate reports.
Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.

The reflected salary on this announcement does not include locality pay. Salary will be adjusted in accordance with the locality pay of the duty location selected, as follows:

Colorado Springs, CO (19.11%): $47,245 - $70,945
Annapolis Junction, MD (32.49%): $52,552 - $78,915
