Duties

This position serves as the Data Analytics Chief, and is located within the Department of the Interior, Office of the Secretary, Business Integration Office (BIO).

If applying to a specific duty station, you may be allowed to telework a set number of day(s) per pay period, with supervisory approval.

At the full performance level GS-15 the major duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:

1.) Advocate for the use of data to support business decisions across the Department of Interior (DOI), including leading and supporting discovery of uses for data and training on Business Intelligence tools.
2.) Work with all stakeholders, including business users, policy office, bureau representatives and other Business Integration Office (BIO) teammates to maintain and improve Financial and Business Management System (FBMS) and BIO Data Governance program, allowing for improved data quality and new and creative uses for DOI data.
3.) Lead the development of the Data Analytics line of business, including oversight of the Business Intelligence Team.
4.) Serve as a member of the BIO Leadership Team.
5.) Work and communicate with bureaus, other BIO division chiefs, contract workers, Office of the Chief Information Officer, and external organizations as appropriate to identify and implement solutions for optimizing and leveraging FBMS in reporting solutions.

Salary Range Information:
GS-15 Washington D.C. & Reston, VA: $148,484 to $176,300
GS-15 Lakewood, CO: $144,612 to $176,300

First time hires to the federal government typically start at the beginning salary in the range for their respective grade level.

This vacancy may be used to fill additional positions as vacancies become available.

To qualify for this position you must meet the Specialized Experience for the series/grade to which you are applying.

Specialized Experience


To qualify for the GS-15, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: Must meet all 4

(1) Working with multiple stakeholders in building consensus and communicating outcomes of decisions made;
(2) Advising executive leadership regarding the best course of action on development, training, and implementation data analytics solutions including feasibility, risk, schedule, or resource constraints;
(3) Leading a team or group; and
(4) Preparing and conducting briefings to top management officials of the Department and other government agencies related to the DOI reporting activities.

A preliminary background check must be completed before a new employee can begin work with the U.S. Department of the Interior. The preliminary background check consists of a search of Office of Personnel Management and Department of Defense background investigation files and an FBI National Criminal History Fingerprint Check; it may take up to 3 weeks to complete. If selected for this position, you will be extended a tentative offer of employment pending a satisfactory background check. Current Federal employees or individuals with an existing completed background investigation may not be required to undergo another background check; these will be handled on a case-by-case basis in coordination with the Bureau security office.
