Duties

Help
  • You will cut piping systems for installation.
  • You will cut and thread pipes for installation.
  • You will troubleshoot high-pressure piping systems and determines need for modification and/or repair to insure proper and safe operation.
  • You will demonstrate technical practices in order to determine need for modification and repairs.
  • You will perform standard welding operations involving commonly used metals to meet weld dimensions, tolerances, strength, and other requirements.
  • You will determine the proper slant, slope, fall, or level of installation to provide for proper flow, drainage, and sanitary operating conditions.
  • You will utilize safety practices and procedures by following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • You will demonstrate the use of plumbing tools and equipment to make installations/repairs.
  • You will interpret blueprints, charts and sketches to install or modification high pressure piping systems.
  • You will interpret blueprints, charts and sketches to install or modification equipment.
  • You will troubleshoot fire suppression systems. mechanical components to correctly identify source and nature of system malfunctions.
  • You will repair fire suppression systems. mechanical components to keep system operating properly.
  • You will inspect fire suppression systems mechanical components in accordance with the command guidelines.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a PIPEFITTER without more than normal supervision performing:1) Troubleshoot and test piping systems and equipment for proper circulation, flow, pressure and leak free joints; 2) Plan and layout installation, modification, and repair of various new and existing piping systems and equipment including various kinds of piping, risers, and flexible branches at the proper level and incline; 3) Operate various hand and power tools and devices (e.g., hand and power pipe threaders and cutters, flanges, pipe wrenches, grinders, templates, sliding squares, measuring tapes, chalk lines, plumb bobs, etc.).

A 40 hour work week is typical for this position.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Incumbent makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where the systems and equipment worked on are in hard-to-reach places. The work involves standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The work is done inside and outside, and is usually dirty, dust, and greasy. May be required to make installations and repairs in areas where bad smelling fumes are present. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of uncomfortable heat conditions. The work may involve exposure to the possibility of strains, cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns, and infections. May occasionally be exposed to the possibility of broken bones.
