Summary

The incumbent will function as a team member in the development of animal models for investigating effects of putative virulence factors in vivo by participating in animal studies designed to establish the effect of viruses, bacteria, or both, in the development of bovine respiratory disease.

Duties

Help
  • Identify and determine the genetic determinants of viruses, bacteria, or both, in the development of respiratory disease in ruminants.
  • Identify expression profiles of messenger RNA (transcripts) in ruminants affected with respiratory diseases.
  • Identify expression profiles of small non-coding RNA in ruminants affected with respiratory diseases.
  • Identify networks between messenger RNA and small non-coding RNA.

Qualifications

This position requires a Ph.D in molecular biology, animal science, or a related field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge and hands on experience in extraction of messenger and small non-coding RNA from animal tissue, and bioinformatics analysis of the data is highly desired.

Applicants must meet basic Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standard's requirements of the scientific discipline necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
