Evaluating the efficacy of different management techniques for reducing disease transmission in wildlife.
Identifying how disease management strategies should be implemented in space and time in order to maximize their effectiveness.
The incumbent will participate in research studies designed to organize, clean, and analyze wildlife disease surveillance data and associated data.
Responsibilities will include organization and manipulation of large data sets (especially spatial data).
Perform a variety of data manipulation tasks to support model development.
The incumbent is expected to be proficient with a programming language such as MATLAB/R/C++/Python or equivalent.
The incumbent is expected to prepare clear graphical presentations of data, keep records of data manipulations, maintain organized data summaries, write reports summarizing methods and results.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. BASIC REQUIREMENT:
Degree: that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.
OR:
Combination of education and experience: courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.

FOR THE GS-09 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-07 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates:
Proficiency with a programming language (e.g., R, Matlab, Python, C++, or similar)
Experienced with collating, organizing, and performing quality checks on large amounts of disparate data, originating from different sources, including compilation into a single dataset
Experience extracting and manipulating geographical information systems (GIS), meteorological, global positioning systems (GPS), and other spatial data
Experienced at producing statistical summaries of data in graphical and tabular form, including maps, and implementing biostatistics methods
Ability to effectively communicate technical information about wildlife disease surveillance both orally (at meetings with stakeholders) and in writing (for peer-reviewed publications) to diverse audiences, especially disease managers.
OR
2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree.
