Help

You will serve in the Public Affairs Division as the Supervisory Public Affairs Officer. You will assist the Public Affairs Officer in all phases of planning, designing, executing and managing the public affairs program for the Mid-Pacific Region.
  • Participates fully in planning, directing, and accomplishing public affairs programs, public involvement programs activities and services.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with members of the news media and other groups
  • Responds to information requests from the news media, from special interest groups and the general public.
  • Provides responses in written and verbal form, often requiring detailed explanations of negative comments made on the Bureau's activities or performance in a particular situation.
  • Provides assistance and consultation to managers, supervisors, and employees throughout the Region in initiating and maintaining direct contacts with specialized groups, community and governmental entities and members of the general public using Bureau of Reclamation services.
  • Develops and writes material for speeches to be delivered by the Commissioner and the Regional Director concerning highly specialized, controversial or sensitive issues pertaining to the mission and/or work program of the Bureau of Reclamation.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify at the GS-13, you must posses one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-12 level in federal service having demonstrated experience which includes: Designs, develops and implements community outreach activities including those associated with educational institutions and local community organizations. Provides responses to inquiries from Congressional offices. Responds to information requests from the news media, from special interest groups and the general public. Provides responses in written and verbal form, often requiring detailed explanations of negative comments made. Develops and writes material for speeches to be delivered concerning highly specialized, controversial or sensitive issues pertaining to the mission and/or work program.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements, including any selective placement factors if applicable, by 09/27/2022.

Education

This position does not allow substituting education for experience.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Category rating and selection procedures will be used to evaluate applications from this announcement.
