Summary

This position is located at Anchors Catering & Conference Center and Admiral Baker Clubhouse, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department at Naval Base San Diego. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a bartender, with responsibility for a bar operation that mixes and serves all types of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Duties

Help

  • Mixes a wide variety of beverages by combining and proportioning ingredients such as liquor, soda, water, sugar, bitters, and/or fruit garnishes in accordance with standard recipes and serves to patrons.  Also serves liqueur, beer and wines.
  • Receives orders from patrons, computes charges, collects appropriate amounts from patrons and makes change in accordance with established cash handling procedures. 
  • Responsible for own change fund. 
  • Prepares daily activity reports and ensure funds are either properly secured and/or deposited.
  • Ensures adequate stock levels is maintained, arranges and displays bottled goods andglasses about the bar.  Replenishes stock and initiates paperwork for requisitioning of supplies and stock.  Ensures that supplies and equipment are economically used and waste is kept to a minimum.
  • Responsible for taking required inventories and ensures prices are accurate.  May be required to calibrate the bar as directed. 
  • Washes, cleans and dries bar glasses, utensils and equipment.  Ensures working area is maintained according to appropriate sanitation and safety standards to include, but not limited to sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning sinks, walls, cabinets etc. 
  • Responsible for complying with all safety, fire and sanitation rules and regulations.

Qualifications

The incumbent is required to have the knowledge and skill to mix and serve a wide variety of beverages from a full service bar by combining ingredients such as liquors, soda, water, sugar, bitters, and fruit garnishes.  Also serve liqueur, beer, and wine, and is skillful in mixing such beverages as Margarita, Zombie, Singapore Sling, etc. The incumbent must have knowledge of the correct proportions and mixtures to use in preparing beverages according to name request from patrons.  Must have the skill required to completely set up a bar and to recognize impending shortages of supplies based on the volume of business and insure their timely replacement. Must present a fine sense of customer relations and service.  The incumbent must have the ability to recognize intoxicated or unruly patrons and to resolve the problem or seek assistance if needed.  Knowledge of cash handling skills, ability to calculate and use basic arithmetic.
