This position is located within the USCG Office of Marine Environmental Response Policy (CG-MER), primarily responsible for supporting national and international oil spill research efforts pursued by the Coast Guard in relation to fresh water, cold weather environments and the Great Lakes.
Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Typical work assignments include:
Serving as a research specialist and subject matter expert in the field of aquatic science, specifically limnology.
Serving as a subject matter expert and consultant for other scientists and specialists for the Coast Guard Marine Environmental Protection (MEP) missions.
Serving as a project manager, responsible for coordinating with Great Lakes regional stakeholders.
Serving as a CG liaison and oil spill response research subject matter expert to institutions of higher learning, maintaining contacts, relationships and day-to-day communications.
Working on team to train Federal, state, tribal and local first responders on best practices as it relates to Great Lakes spill response.
Developing Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs), Memorandum of Agreements (MOAs), Training Agreements, Inter-agency agreements and other support documents that facilitate collaboration with inter-agency partners.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements Qualifications for General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Series, 0401:
Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Additional Requirements:
In addition to meeting the basic requirements for either series, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service performing the following types of tasks on a regular and recurring basis:
Researching projects in the areas of aquatic ecology, environmental chemistry, fish/wildlife, biology and water resources, or
Scientific analysis and technical reviews of literature published within limnologist, meteorologist and other aquatic science.
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skill, and ability to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
