Summary

The NASA Office of Inspector General (OIG) conducts audits, reviews, and investigations of NASA programs and operations to prevent and detect fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement and to assist NASA management in promoting economy, efficiency, and effectiveness. The OIG consists of auditors, analysts, specialists, investigators, attorneys, and support staff at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC and NASA Centers throughout the United States. Position located in the Front Office of OIG.

Duties

Help
  • Serves as Chief Technology Officer and principal advisor for the OIG on all IT related matters.
  • Develops policies and procedures to ensure information systems reliability and accessibility and to prevent and defend against unauthorized access to systems, networks, and data.
  • Conducts risk and vulnerability assessments of planned and installed information systems to identify vulnerabilities, risks, and protection needs.
  • Develops systems security contingency plans and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Participates in network and systems design to ensure implementation of appropriate systems security policies.
  • Ensures the rigorous application of information security/ information assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of all IT services.
  • Conducts analysis and makes enterprise architecture recommendations with emphasis on data migration in a cloud environment.
  • Duties described below are at the full-performance level. Duties assigned at a lower grade level will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.

Qualifications

You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level:

  • Integrating long-range agency-wide policies, procedures, strategies and management guidelines for complex and changing information technology systems software;
  • Identifying cybersecurity gaps in technical capabilities and developing or recommending analytical approaches or solutions to problems and situations;
  • Advising Leadership on cyberspace operations and/or policy functions;
  • Supervising the execution of cyberspace policies, missions, or operations functions; and
  • Implementing complex and innovative cybersecurity solutions across organizational boundaries in a risk-based manner that minimizes operational impact.
AND

If you are qualifying based on experience, you must also have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:

  2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
