Duties

Help

This position is with the Office of Inspector General, Office of Audits, Inspections, and Evaluations (AIE), Information Technology Audits Unit, in Lakewood, CO. As a Information Technology Specialist (INFOSEC), you will be responsible for assisting in the operation of the OIG's information technology audit program, coordinating and reporting on computer network policies with the DOI and the subordinate Bureaus, providing technical lead in system network intrusion incidents, coordinating data mining initiatives, and implementing a variety of information technology related programs in support of the OIG mission.

Major duties include:

  • Supports IT Audit lab users and maintains client laptop configurations for IT Audit lab equipment.
  • Performs system administration and maintenance activities for multiple servers in lab environment.
  • Maintains lab network infrastructure including VPN technologies and firewall technologies.
  • Reviews and analyzes Departmental information security program policies and procedures for effectiveness and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Performs and documents interviews of IT personnel for appropriate implementation of controls and makes recommendations for improvement. Interacts effectively with internal/external customers to gain their confidence and cooperation.
  • Writes and maintains configurations, guides, procedures, and policies for the IT Audit lab system. Performs security control testing, maintains inventories, and prepares and maintains documentation for the accreditation of a security testing lab environment.

Minimum Qualifications GS-11 :

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service performing all of the following:

  • Installing, configuring, and troubleshooting IT components;
  • Assisting in conducting security accreditation reviews for installed systems or networks;
  • Assisting in resolving IT integration security issues in Linux, Windows, or other standalone/and or client server operating systems in a TCP/IP network environment; AND
  • Providing technical information and reports in a clear manner.
OR

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Education must be in a related field. Degree must be in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management OR degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.

Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the following four competencies:

  3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
