You will perform a variety of task involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds and related structures, fixtures, and utilities. The duties are performed primarily within the carpentry and painting trade, with other duties as required to support plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and water/waste water projects and operations.
Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.
Typical work assignments include:
Independently applies skilled methods, techniques, and advanced shop mathematics to construct, install, repair, and modify a wide variety of structures.
Works on projects such as building frames, rafters, concrete forms, wall, staircases, door and window frames, interior and exterior trim, and other miscellaneous items.
Plans and completes work from initial layout to final assembly by interpreting and applying complex building plans specification, blueprints, sketches, and other guides and codes.
Performs a variety of work assignment involving brush, roller and/or spray painting.
Determines the methods and techniques, as well as materials and equipment needed to accomplish assignments.
Determines color and consistency of paint required and mixers and pigments, thinners, and oils to procedure paint that will flow evenly and consistently to insure surfaces have a smooth-textured and decorative appearance and meet thickness and level requirements.
Selects the appropriate tools, equipment, and materials needed at the worksite and determines how or what repairs need to be made.
Applies a full range of carpentry methods in accomplishing complex task requiring construction of irregular sizes, shapes, and angles with precise fits and accurate dimensions.
Applies coating materials with any of the accepted trade devices including those designed to give special effects, Checks masking and preparation of surface to be painted and applies coating, selecting the proper materials and equipment to achieve an even distribution of paint.
Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
Background Investigation is required.
A one-year probationary period may be required.
