Help

As a Public Affairs Specialist, PT-1035-2 your typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Provide writing, editing, and operations support to Fast Facts program to help GAO communicate in plain language and broaden the reach and relevance of GAO reports to Congress and the public. Writes and edits short summaries of GAO's reports and testimonies, called "Fast Facts," to communicate their main points in plain language for Congress and the public. Supports other editorial needs for GAO's staff offices, advisory groups, employee organizations, and the Inspector General;
  • Evaluate information focused on new media efforts and assist with implementing initiatives designed to utilize new and existing technologies to better communicate with various audiences and thereby enhance the service GAO;
  • Assure the delivery or provision of work products or services is coordinated with relevant customers, colleagues and consultants;
  • Assist with the production of GAO's digital communication and publication efforts and advise management if efforts are effectively utilized to enhance GAO's new media/social networking capabilities;
  • Help manage the GAO's agency internet website in coordination with GAO Management and support staff as well as ensures that GAO external web pages provide an up-to-date and comprehensive body of information to support PA's policies, procedures, schedules and other information;
  • Teach internal courses on Writing for Social Media and Fast Facts.

Qualifications

You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower band or level equivalent to the GS-11 in the federal service, applying principles and methods used in implementing a public affairs program to convey information on agency operations, programs and activities to specialized audiences and general public; developing communications products on a variety of topics for use in responding to media queries and/or as briefing materials; implementing and evaluating new and existing technologies for media efforts including web analytics and social networking.
