The Communications Assistant gathers, evaluates, and disseminates daily news coverage about the Court. Responsibilities include handling a heavy volume of request for information, assisting with filming projects, assisting with press seating, and assisting in the production of the Court's internal newsletter. The Communications Assistant also serves as the primary person responsible for reviewing and responding to Public Information Office (PIO) website mail inquiries. Additional responsibilities include performing research and developing original content for the website's homepage. The Communications Assistant files and distributes materials, assists in organizing the Court orders and opinions for release to the press and public, and performs other duties as assigned. The Communications Assistant performs general office duties, provides administrative support, and works on special projects in the PIO. The Communications Assistant reports directly to the Public Information Officer, and is supervised in part by the Deputy Public Information Officer.
One to two years prior office work experience similar or directly related to the duties of this position is required. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Must be able to use judgment and discretion in handling sensitive information and establishing job priorities. Requires tact, a courteous demeanor, ability to work with people effectively, and computer experience including the Internet, Microsoft Office and Outlook. Requires excellent writing and communication skills and the ability to synthesize information and present findings succinctly. Requires attention to detail and familiarity with editing style. Ability to communicate clearly, courteously and effectively both orally and in writing is required. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work successfully in a busy office with quick deadlines.
A college degree is required.
