Summary

This position is located in the Center for Global Health, Global Immunization Division, Polio Eradication Branch. The purpose of this position is to serve as the Technical Deputy Branch Chief responsible for planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over supervisory and non-supervisory employees and serving as focal point for formal communications within and outside the Branch in scientific and managerial policies related to the Branch functions.

Duties

As a Supervisory Epidemiologist, you will:

  • Design and monitor a program by analyzing the need for personnel, facilities, and materials; prepare budget requests; prepare a program plan; and provide ongoing advice and assistance in its implementation.
  • Establish and maintain a working relationship with high level officials Federal and State agencies and international organizations.
  • Serve as a principal advisor on the planning, development, coordination, and implementation of public health programs and policies related to infectious diseases with governmental agencies and national and international organizations.
  • Oversee public health program and research contracts, grants, or cooperative agreements with full responsibility for carrying out all required monitoring and management duties.
  • Responsible for developing work improvement plans and recommending personnel actions as necessary.
  • Provide advice and counsel to workers related to work and administrative matters.
  • Provide epidemiologic advice and consultation as a nationally or internationally recognized consultant and expert, on critical issues with infectious diseases, particularly in the areas of intervention, control, and research.

A supervisory probationary period may be required. Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
Applicants must have a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience providing leadership and technical advice in the planning, designing, implementing and evaluating epidemiologic studies, surveys and investigations.

Education

Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements. You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
