LOCATION: This position is located in the Office of Hearings Operations (OHO), 101 South Edeworth Street Suite 300 Greensboro, NC 27401.

TOUR OF DUTY: Full-Time, Monday through Friday 8-hours per day. Flextime and alternative work schedules may be available. NOTE: Part-Time employees are eligible to apply but may not be converted to full-time by way of this announcement.

Duties

  • The Supervisory Attorney Adviser (Group Supervisor) serves as the first line supervisor of a group of attorney-advisers, paralegal analysts and technicians.
  • The incumbent directs the work of several members of a processing group who perform complex technical and professional work.

Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-12 level, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience include experience as an attorney who is involved in reviewing claims under Titles II, XVI, and/or XVIII of the Social Security Act; planning, directing, reviewing or supervising the work of others; communicating orally and in writing with a variety of contacts; conducting studies and preparing analyses or evaluations relating to management, organizational issues, administrative systems, or operating procedures; and writing policies or procedures relating to government programs.

Applicants must also meet the following to qualify for this position:

  • Proof of current, active 2022 membership in the Bar of a State, Territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia is required. This documentation MUST be uploaded/included in your application package by the closing date of the announcement.

Applicants for promotion must have 52 weeks at GS-12.

Time in grade requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience at this grade level.

Additional information

Position to be filled under the provisions of the Management Officials Promotion Plan. The best-qualified list for this vacancy may be used to fill the same or similar positions in a component(s) under the same Deputy Commissioner. Additional selections may be made within 6 months of the date the best qualified list is issued.

LOCALITY PAY: Salary will be set in accordance with locality pay provisions. Candidates currently receiving a higher locality pay than the office applied for are advised that should they be selected, they will lose entitlement to the higher locality pay.

OTHER NOTES:

This position is temporary not-to-exceed one-year.

This is not a career ladder position; GS-13 is the full performance level.

TEMPORARY SUPERVISORY PROBATION: First time supervisors/managers are required to serve a one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period. Time served in this temporary position may be credited toward meeting the supervisory/managerial probationary period.

This position is eligible for telework.

Travel expenses for temporary assignments will be paid as appropriate according to applicable travel rules and/or regulations.
