This position is located in the Visual Arts Division, in the Office of the Deputy Chair for Programs and Partnerships, at the National Endowment for the Arts. Incumbent serves as Discipline Specialist in the Media Arts field, primarily assisting with the review and processing of applications and grants from receipt to closeout.

In this position you will serve as a Grants Management Specialist. Typical work assignments include:

  • Assisting the Discipline Director in all processing related to assigned grant applications, grant awards, cooperative agreements, interagency agreements and leadership initiatives, in accordance with agency directives and policies regarding the administration of Federal grants, cooperative agreements, and awards.
  • Working with a team of Discipline Directors, Coordinators, and Specialists within and between Divisions to organize, coordinate and implement a range of administrative processes related to pre-screening applications, panel application review, and award recommendations.
  • Providing guidance to prospective applicants and constituents in context of published grant guidelines and agency initiatives with knowledge of field activities, national trends, agency policies and funding history of specific projects.
  • Reviewing and evaluating a range of materials for completeness and compliance, such as budgets, work samples, and descriptive information related to grant applications and recommended awards.
  • Preparing a variety of written materials, including statistical and narrative reports, concerning areas of responsibility for use by senior management.
  • Serving as agency liaison with the film and media arts field, and the broader arts and cultural field.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for the GS-11 position, you must meet ONE of the following requirement:

A. Have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors), with experience in performing the following duties:

  • Assisting in the administration of nonprofit arts and/or media arts programs;
  • Reviewing grant applications for eligibility, completeness and adherence to published guidelines;
  • Providing guidance about grants and the grant application review processes; and
  • Drafting a range of correspondence and written communications using office technology( including emails, articles, newsletters, and/or statistical reports).

OR

B. Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D.; or successfully completed a Ph.D.; or equivalent degree, e.g., LL.M., at an accredited college or university in a field that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

C. A combination of graduate education and specialized experience, as described above, which when combined, total 100 percent of the requirement.

In order to qualify for the GS-12 position, you must meet the following requirement:

Have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors), with experience in performing the following duties:
  • Implementing nonprofit arts and cultural programs;
  • Managing and evaluating grants applications from submission to awards;
  • Serving as a technical expert and representative on matters affecting the field of film and media arts, or the broader arts and cultural field; and
  • Preparing and delivering oral and written communications for internal organization staff or external audiences.
