NASA is seeking an experienced and self-motivated System Engineer to support the Earth Science Data and Information System (ESDIS) project at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. This individual will contribute to project management efforts related to the ESDIS Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) role in NASA's Earth Science Division (ESD) Commercial Smallsat Data Acquisition (CSDA) Program.
Summary
NASA is seeking an experienced and self-motivated System Engineer to support the Earth Science Data and Information System (ESDIS) project at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. This individual will contribute to project management efforts related to the ESDIS Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) role in NASA's Earth Science Division (ESD) Commercial Smallsat Data Acquisition (CSDA) Program.
Provide support to project management in the monitoring of the day-to-day activities of the program ensuring the smooth transitions of the purchased evaluated data to sustained long term use and dissemination.
Provide support for Earth Science Data and Information System (ESDIS) Project initiatives to advance the planning, direction, and communication of Project strategies with respect to NASA's commercial data.
Propose innovative and alternative solutions to resolve Project issues.
Perform technical analyses and recommend process improvements.
Ensure NASA and Goddard Space Flight Center system engineering and management standards are adhered to.
Prepare Commercial Smallsat Data Acquisition (CSDA) documentation including change requests to controlled documents, participate in working groups/teams as a contributor/facilitator, and propose material to enhance communication of objectives.
Coordinate among large number of stakeholder groups across the Agency and EOSDIS to plan, design, implement, and maintain long term data stewardship solution for NASA's commercial data.
May require some travel to domestic locations in support of the Project.

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.
To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the federal sector:
Assisting with project reporting needs and providing reminders to ensure submissions are made on time;
Preparing and/or providing recommendations for proposed project requirements, expected results, and/or budgetary estimates; and
Assisting with the development and monitoring of system requirements, system configuration, and/or assisting with the development and monitoring of system implementation activities, and proposing alternative solutions to resolve system issues.

Education
Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following:
a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs
b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science
c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus.
If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.
Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
