Summary

This position is located in the Pacific Northwest Region, Region 6 on the Fremont-Winema National Forests in Lakeview, Oregon.

Duties

Help
  • Assist with initial emergency response by evaluating the incident, soliciting all necessary information and applying judgment according to interagency guides, protocols and pre-plans.
  • Perform a central dispatch of personnel, equipment and supplies for incidents (fire, law enforcement and other emergency services).
  • Assist in the mobilization, tracking and demobilization of activated personnel and resources throughout the duration of an incident, maintaining current information for the assigned agencies and cooperator resources.
  • Operate a multi frequency, multi-agency radio console with cross frequency patching and phone patching capabilities.
  • Record and maintain all radio transmissions and significant telephone calls by operating a digital recorder to retrieve critical communications to facilitate investigations, resolve factual disputes, or to present as evidence.
  • Route clear and concise information to appropriate personnel while remaining calm and professional in stressful situations.
  • Assist with operations via telephone and radio between a variety of agencies and personnel.
  • Report situations (emergency or routine) and assist in applying agency plans.
  • Solicit critical information from reporting parties to initiate an appropriate response.
  • Broadcast significant advisories (Be on the lookout for (BOLO), hazardous weather, red flag warnings, etc.)
  • Assist with receiving, coding, database entry, filing and transmitting of all documents associated with incident reporting and statistics.
  • Safeguard information ensuring appropriate dissemination of sensitive information to appropriate personnel.
  • Perform general dispatch center clerical duties such as data entry, records management, inventories, verification and maintenance of contact listings, etc.; Maintain security of sensitive/classified documents.
  • Receive radio calls for law enforcement data from law enforcement communications networks; Disseminate appropriate law enforcement crime data to law enforcement via radio system.
  • Facilitate interagency employee safety by modern monitoring of radio transmissions.
  • Disseminate information involving the flow of information across various platforms (email systems, teletypes, facsimiles, telephones, personal computers, etc.) to concerned personnel and to other cooperating agencies and associations.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-05: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as one of the following: Filed and retrieved documents; Assisted in preparing various maps, plans, guides, analyses, and special reports; received and processed requests for equipment, personnel, and supplies;

OR a bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school (120 semester/180 quarter hours);

OR combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester/90 quarter hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university with courses related to the occupation of the position.

For the GS-06: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5 grade level. Qualifying specialized experience includes meeting one or more of the following: Assisted in the dispatch of personnel, equipment, aircraft, or supplies for fire and other normal administrative traffic; collected, processed and disseminated weather information into computer programs or databases; arranged for ground and air transportation of personnel, supplies, and equipment in support of emergency and project activities.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Work Experience: Your resume must clearly document the following for each block of work experience; the beginning day, month and year the work assignment started and ended; the hours worked per week; position title, and series and grade if applicable; and description of duties performed.
