This is a Health Scientist (Informatics) position in the Division of Bacterial Diseases. The position serves as Associate Director for Informatics, responsible for information technology and informatics activities. As part of the division management team, the position will develop vision and strategies for informatics and its application within public health and establish and maintain internal processes for decision-making regarding metrics, standards, guidelines and policies.
Summary
This is a Health Scientist (Informatics) position in the Division of Bacterial Diseases. Develop and implement scientific policies and procedures on informatics practices and principles.
Develop strategies to meet short and long-range goals for the applicable program as it relates to public health informatics.
Assure that strategies reflect most promising directions in research, preventive, and clinical approaches as it relates to public health informatics.
Collaborate and provide expert scientific advice to a variety of nation-wide and international organizations to synthesize, develop and implement informatics policies and directions for future development.
Evaluate and develop approaches for strengthening the standardization and utility of national health information systems, their products, policies and processes, with special emphasis on electronic data interchange and electronic media.
Provide leadership in the development, testing, implementation and evaluation of scientific information technology and information systems needs and applicable software systems relating to public health informatics within the area of responsibility.
Promote the development, use and dissemination of information and information technology in regards to health data systems, with an emphasis on public health applications.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience developing recommendations on the application of information technology for public health information systems and advising on the development of electronic data standards.
Documenting Experience: In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment.
