Duties

This is a temporary assignment not to exceed 6/30/2023.

This position is with the Office of Inspector General, Communications and Report Unit, in Washington, District of Columbia. This office is responsible for the management and implementation of all editing, review, processing, and design of reports and other communications products, standards for the OIG writing style, development and delivery of writing and communication training, and other external and internal communication functions as identified by the OIG.
As a Supervisory Writer-Editor you will be responsible for supervision, direction, and oversight of technical and administrative work of assigned staff.

Major duties include:

  • Provide senior level review of work products, technical advice, and editing of significant work products written and edited by subordinate staff that usually pertain to highly complex, sensitive, and/or controversial subjects.
  • Approve and deny requests for leave and compensatory time and changes to work schedules.
  • Establish performance standards and evaluates performance of assigned subordinates.

  • Successful completion of a background investigation.
  • OGE-450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report may be required.
  • Time-in-grade requirement - Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions contained in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.
  • Must be a current DOI OIG employee.
  • THIS IS A TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT NOT TO EXCEED 6/30/2023. The selectee will be given a temporary promotion if eligible or be placed on a lateral detail if already serving at the advertised grade level on a permanent basis. If temporarily promoted, the temporary assignment may be ended earlier or extended for up to six (6) months based on management's needs. At the end of the temporary promotion (if temporarily promoted), the employee's basic pay will be set at the rate received prior to being temporarily promoted, regardless of length of the temporary promotion. The pay rate shall be increased to reflect pay increases (if any) received while temporarily promoted, as long as the resulting rate does not exceed the new range maximum.

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

Minimum Qualifications GS-14 :

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service performing all of the following:
1.) advise others on writing, editing, and formatting highly technical, complex, and/or sensitive reports; 2.) reviewing drafts of written reports for meeting report writing standards and messaging; AND 3.) collaborating with subject matter experts and/or sources to produce written products.

Education

There is no educational substitute for the GS-14 grade level.
