Duties

Help

This Docketing Technician position performs docketing and complex legal report development using computerized case tracking and record-keeping systems.
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing Docketing Technician support in the U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of New York, located in Central Islip, New York, focusing in the areas of automated systems tools and docketing system subject matter expert.

Typical work assignments will include:

  • Serves as a source of procedural and systemic information on all aspects of docketing functions
  • Advises other docketing personnel on unique or complex cases or situations
  • Develops local docketing training activities and materials
  • Inputs information into databases and systems and updates records
  • Develops and maintain automated records from initial referral to final disposition and case file closure and
  • Provides legal support services such as case file reviews, closing case files and responding to case inquiries.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience for the respective grade level(s) in which you are applying:

Typing Proficiency: You must be able to type at least 40 WPM based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.

GS-07 Specialized Experience: You must possess one year of full-time specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as experience:

  • Providing legal support relating to the control and administration of litigative records and the docketing process,
  • Analyzing legal case files to identify document or automated record errors, and
  • Reviewing correspondence and case details to input data into a docketing automation system.

Time-in-Grade Requirements: Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under a non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying). Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to current employees applying for a Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. NOTE: All current or former Federal employees must provide a copy of their SF-50 (you may need to submit more than one), "Notice of Personnel Action" that indicates proof of status and time-in-grade eligibility. The SF-50 must include your position, title, series, grade, step, tenure (1 or 2), and type of service (Competitive or Excepted).

Background Investigation: To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the Department of Justice requires each and every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background investigation for a public trust clearance as a condition of placement in this Non-sensitive (NS)/Low Risk position.
