Requires knowledge of food service operations and advanced food delivery systems including tray delivery and pick-up, ware washing and sanitation in a hospital or nursing home setting.

This vacancy is a solicitation for a Hiring Fair Event, which will be on an invite only basis once the position qualifications have been met. If you receive an invitation, you will be required to attend in person on:

  • Date: August 27 2022
  • Time: 8:00AM. - 3:00PM.
  • Location: Prescott VA Healthcare System - (Address and map of hiring fair location will be provided to candidates who have met minimum qualifications for invitation)

You will be notified on 8/18/2022 if you meet the minimum qualifications. If identified as a candidate, you will receive an invitation and MUST RSVP No Later Than 8/22/2022. Please be available to complete the fingerprints and immunizations process. This is a requirement for the pre-employment process. Please make sure to bring your immunization records and 2 forms of ID for fingerprinting to the event.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Delivering meals, which may include hot foods and liquids, to patients' bedsides or patrons.
  • Setting up cafeteria lines and/or steam-tables with hot and cold food items.
  • Portioning food items into standard serving sizes using the proper utensils and containers.
  • Sweeping and mopping floors repetitively in high traffic areas such as corridors, entry ways, cafeterias and other areas.
  • Standing/walking to clear tables and carrying trays of heavy dishes for several hours or more at a time.
  • Loading and operating a continuous conveyor belt feeding dishwasher.
  • Performing heavy duty cleaning tasks such as ceilings and/or exhaust hoods.
  • Scouring and scrubbing heavy cooking utensils such as mixing bowls and pots.
  • Applying sanitation principles to safeguard food against spoilage and waste.
  • Adhering to safety policies and procedures when performing manual work involving lifting, carrying, transporting and delivering food or other items.
Work Schedule: Various Full time and Part time shifts & tours of duty to include weekends and holidays

Physical Requirements: The Food Service Worker requires continual standing and walking, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, and bending. Repetitive motion for long periods. Frequently lift or move objects and push/pull carts weighing (or requiring the force of) up to 40 pounds unassisted. Regularly lift or move objects over 40 pounds with the assistance of pallet jacks, electric carts or other workers. Push heavy carts and trucks during unloading, storing, and delivering food and supplies. To minimize risk of work related injury, the food service worker adheres to safe, ergonomic work practices including bending at knees to lift, pushing (not pulling) carts or other equipment, using appropriate personal protective equipment, and following all established safety standards.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
