Help

As an OPERATIONS RESEARCH ANALYST at the GS-1515-13 some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Designs and directs the execution of all assigned warfighting analyses spanning current contingency plans and DoD strategic futures.
  • Leads Joint contingency plan analyses supporting Combatant Commander regional plan development IAW Defense Priorities.
  • Serves as the principal and senior technical adviser to Joint Staff leadership on operational campaign effectiveness and warfighting proficiency.
  • Directs Joint research and analysis team that acquires, designs, operates, and maintains appropriate engagement, mission, and campaign-level warfighting and war-supporting analytic models and tools that enable the studies within the division and across the DoD analytic community.
  • Leads development and evaluation of concepts of operation, alternative planning concepts, and emerging creative approaches for the DoD.
  • Establishes decision criteria and methodologies for completing effective concept and course of action assessments for Joint and coalition warfights in support of DoD strategic direction formulation, strategic planning, contingency planning, requirements and programs.
  • Ensures that the methods used to support the objectives and that technical recommendations are sound and appropriate.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:
You may qualify at the GS-13, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service:

  • Conducting and/or supporting joint mission and/or campaign analyses using advanced modeling and simulation (e.g. Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration and Modeling (AFSIM), Extended Air Defense Simulation (EADSIM) and/or Synthetic Theater Operations Research Model (STORM))
  • Operating, maintaining and supporting engagement, mission, and campaign-level warfighting and war-supporting analytic models and tools (e.g. Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration and Modeling (AFSIM), Extended Air Defense Simulation (EADSIM) and/or Synthetic Theater Operations Research Model (STORM)
You may qualify at the GS-14, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Designing, directing, and executing Joint warfighting, logistics, and/or mobility analyses of U.S. and allied forces against potential adversaries using advanced modeling and simulation (e.g. Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration and Modeling (AFSIM), Extended Air Defense Simulation (EADSIM) and/or Synthetic Theater Operations Research Model (STORM))
  • Operating, maintaining and advancing engagement, mission, and campaign-level warfighting and war-supporting analytic models and tools (e.g. Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration and Modeling (AFSIM), Extended Air Defense Simulation (EADSIM) and/or Synthetic Theater Operations Research Model (STORM)
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

In addition to meeting qualifications, your application package must reflect the applicable experience to meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the 1515 series.

For the 1515 series: Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study.
