Summary

Help

This position provides Life Cycle Logistics Management educational development, training of acquisition workforce, and research and analysis of defense acquisition policy issued. As an Professor of Life Cycle Logistics management, you will apply knowledge, experience, and technical skills to teach and facilitate higher levels of learning for the Department of Defense acquisition workforce. This requires knowledge of life cycle logistics, life cycle product support, integrated product support elements, performance-based logistics, supply chain management, and reliability, availability, maintainability and supportability analyses. This entails conveying knowledge and experience regarding the planning, developing, implementing, and managing an effective systems support strategy for DoD weapons systems across a system's life cycle (concept and design through disposal) to include:

  • Performing as a subject matter expert for acquisition customers, stakeholders and students, providing mission assistance, workshops, classroom offerings and on-line resources.
  • Creating content and coordinating with internal and external customers and stakeholders
  • Developing and facilitating training, cases, videos, tools, simulations, workshops and webcasts.
  • Leading and facilitating student discussion, problem solving, and presentations.
  • Preparing course materials (student and instructor) according to current instructional systems design technology; developing and delivering learning asset content.
  • Conducting professional research to ensure learning asset currency
  • Identifying the specific requirements for money, manpower, material, facilities, and services needed to support the program.
  • Correlating those requirements with program plans to assure that the needed support is provided at the right time and place.
  • Design and development, procurement, production storage, distribution, maintenance, transportation, utilization, and disposal of materials.
  • Broad knowledge of the organization and functions of activities involved in providing logistical support
  • Integration of actions required of each activity into a comprehensive business case analysis and sustainment plan in support of or to be incorporated into overall program plans.
  • Ability to coordinate and evaluate the efforts of functional specialists to identify specific requirements and to develop and adjust plans and schedules for the actions needed to meet each requirement on time.
  • Evaluation of plans for and provision of logistical support for feasibility, efficiency, and economy, and to develop alternatives when required.
  • All aspects of Life Cycle Logistics to include the areas of 1) determination and assessment of warfighter logistics requirements, 2) logistics test and evaluation, 3) logistics contracting, 4) configuration management, 4) life cycle cost, 5) logistics budget development, 5) basic production, manufacturing and quality assurance principles, 6) policies, processes and practices used in DoD, and 7) various types of supportability analysis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Certification in DAWIA Life Cycle Logistics functional area within a required time-frame will vary and is required. Certification category level is dependent upon the grade/band level to which the incumbent is selected.
  • Incumbent must achieve 80 hours of Continuous Learning Points (CLPs) every two years, in accordance with Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 5000.66, Defense Acquisition Workforce Education, Training, Experience, and Career Development Program.

To qualify for this position at a respective band/grade level, you must demonstrate in your resume/application that you possess the required years of specialized experience equivalent to one band/grade-level lower (or equivalent) to include having specialized experience directly relating to the specific duties of the position, and demonstrate that you have the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully with the experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge. Specialized experience areas include, but are not limited to:

  • Directing, developing, or performing logistics management operations that involve planning, coordinating, or evaluating the logistical actions required to support a specified mission, weapons system, or other designated system.
  • Significant experience and skill in a Life Cycle Logistics Management position that reflects the ability to integrate the separate functions in planning or implementing a integrated product support management program.

In addition to the above qualifications, the following as been determined to be a Quality Ranking Factor. Applicants who possess QRFs are considered to be Well-Qualified.

Knowledge of the Defense Acquisition System, including in-depth knowledge, application and experience of the interrelationships among its elements.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

DAU Faculty Pay Band Minimum Education and Specialized Experience Requirements:

  • DAU Pay Band A (AD-11) (Equivalent to a GS-09 through GS-13 General Schedule grade equivalency): Minimum Education and Specialized Experience:
    • Basic requirements for Band A include a minimum of a Bachelor level degree and up to four years of experience in the appropriate functional area.
  • DAU Pay Band B (AD-12) (Equivalent to a GS-14 General Schedule grade equivalency): Minimum Education and Specialized Experience:
    • Basic requirements for Band B include a minimum of a Bachelor level degree in an appropriate discipline and a minimum of six years of experience in the appropriate functional area. Advanced degrees are highly desired in Band B.
  • DAU Pay Band C (AD-13) (Equivalent to a GS-15 General Schedule grade equivalency): Minimum Education and Specialized Experience:
    • Basic requirements for Band C include a minimum of a Bachelor level degree in an appropriate discipline and a minimum of eight years of experience in the appropriate functional area. Advanced degrees are highly desired in Band C.
Please note: Technical certifications and/or experience may be approved by the DAU Chief of Staff (delegated from the DAU President) to meet the needs of the University.

Initial appointment is made for a period of three years, conditional upon satisfactory completion of a DAU probationary period of two years. At the one year mark, as part of an annual review, consideration is given to extending the appointment; thus at any one time moving beyond that point an employee will have two years remaining.

DAU requires reporting to the assigned duty location during each pay period. DAU supports part-time telework, but remote work and full-time telework are not offered.

DAU participates in e-Verify with the Department of Homeland Security and United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.
