The position is responsible for the quality and performance of analog and digital audio products and processes to meet the standards and specifications of the analog and digital audio program requirements for the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS). The work of this position supports the planning, developing, evaluation, and coordination of a comprehensive analog and digital quality assurance program. The incumbent analyzes and evaluates processes and provides recommendations for organization process. The position also serves as a liaison, and prepares and presents information to various audiences on the program’s mission.

Evaluates the technical quality of analog and digital recorded materials. Assesses work representing the most difficult and unusual problems with analog and digital recorded materials. Audits master digital and analog recordings for adherence to NLS standards and specifications. Certifies the acceptability of audio material produced for the NLS program based on those standards and specifications. Performs inspections to verify the narration quality, effective interpretation of text, correct pronunciation, and vocal presentation of the spoken word ensuring these elements are aligned with written standards. Identifies defects and the cause of defects. Evaluates problems and formulates plans to address and correct issues. Prepares written critiques on the results of each inspection.

Investigates indicators of significant deviations caused by product or process design, material quality, or other    significant factors. Coordinates with technical specialists within NLS to identify options and develop recommendations.  Establishes a system for corrective actions that assures that prompt action is taken to correct assignable conditions.

As Senior Quality Assurance Specialist, the incumbent monitors the flow of analog and digital, and physical materials through the section to identify uncommon problems related to their timely receipt and accessibility to the quality assurance staff. Plans, develops, evaluates, and coordinates the implementation of effective audio presentation standards for digital recorded materials provided by the NLS program. This includes making recommendations to and incorporating new and revised techniques to updated policies and procedures used by NLS.

Prepares administrative reports and studies for appropriate personnel and documents related to work assignment or developmental activities conducted under broad supervisory guidance. Compiles and writes correspondence, manuals, specifications, instructive materials, and articles for various publications relating to quality assurance of audio and digital materials.
